In this world, people often measure success by money, possessions, and the applause of others. A man wins the lottery or strikes gold at the casino, and the crowd erupts in cheers. His name is celebrated, and his pockets overflow. But what does it profit him if, in gaining the whole world, he loses his soul? Jesus Himself asked this piercing question in Mark 8:36:
“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”
I have learned that the treasures of this world, though glittering and loud, are temporary. They fade, they rust, and they lose their value the moment life ends. My treasure is not found in money, cars, or fleeting pleasures. My treasure is God the Father in heaven, and my joy comes from knowing Him. As Matthew 6:19-21 reminds us:

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven… For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
When I see the excitement of a lottery winner or the shouts of joy in a casino, I’m reminded how many people are chasing things that cannot last. Yes, money can buy comfort, but it cannot buy eternal life. Ecclesiastes 5:10 tells the truth plainly:
“Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless.”
The riches I seek are spiritual riches—peace that passes all understanding, joy that endures through trials, and love that comes from Christ alone. My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. This foundation will never crumble, even when everything else falls apart. And when the final day comes, I know that money will hold no value in eternity. The markets of this world will close, the cheers of men will be silenced, and every person will stand before the Lord. For those who have trusted in Christ, a far greater reward awaits. As Revelation 21:4 promises:
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
Heaven is not just a dream—it is a promise from God to all who believe in His Son. And in that beautiful place, the glory of Jesus will shine brighter than gold, and His love will be worth more than all the riches of this earth. So while the world celebrates its jackpots and fleeting wins, I will rejoice in something eternal. I am rich in spirit because my Savior lives, and one day, I will see Him face to face. That is my greatest prize, my eternal treasure.
As 1 Peter 1:3-4 says:
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you.”
No lottery ticket can compare to that.
