Many people confuse the idea of reincarnation with the biblical teaching of the incarnation. Reincarnation is the belief that after death, a person’s soul is reborn into another body or even another form. This belief is not taught in Scripture, and Christians do not hold to it. In fact, 2 Corinthians 5:8 teaches that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, leaving no need for another earthly body.
The Bible teaches instead about the incarnation — the truth that Jesus Christ is fully man and fully God. The eternal Son of God took on human flesh, being one with the Father and the Holy Spirit, yet distinct in His person. This was not a soul being reborn but God Himself entering into human history in a unique and once-for-all way.
This is why Scripture warns against those who deny that Jesus came in the flesh. As 1 John 4:2–3 says, “Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God.” The incarnation is central to our faith — and unlike reincarnation, it is not about returning in another form, but about God Himself dwelling among us to bring salvation.
Christians don’t believe in reincarnation, which teaches that a soul is reborn into another body after death. The Bible says that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord (2 Corinthians 5:8). Instead, we believe in the incarnation — that Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man, came in the flesh once for all time (John 1:14; 1 John 4:2–3). This wasn’t a rebirth into a new form, but God Himself entering our world to save us.
