Reflection

John the Baptist spoke these words to remind the people that his mission was not about himself but about preparing the way for Jesus. In ancient culture, untying someone’s sandals was the lowliest of tasks—reserved for servants. Yet John, a great prophet, declared himself unworthy even for that. This humility shows us the magnitude of Christ’s power and holiness.

We live in a world where recognition, status, and personal praise are often sought after. But John teaches us that the true posture of the heart is humility before Jesus. Our worth is not found in comparing ourselves to others but in recognizing that Christ, who is greater, still loves us deeply and invites us to walk with Him.

When we acknowledge His greatness, we also receive His grace. The powerful Savior John spoke of has come—not just to be served, but to serve and to give His life as a ransom for many.

Short Story

A young man worked in a large vineyard. His job was small: tying vines, carrying water, and sweeping the soil. Others mocked him, saying, “You will never rise to anything important here.” One day, the vineyard owner visited and stopped by the young man. Instead of speaking to the overseers or managers, he smiled at the servant and said, “Well done, faithful one. You have cared for my vines with love.”

The young man bowed, realizing that his worth was not in titles or recognition but in faithfully serving the master. In the same way, our humble service to Christ, no matter how small, is seen and honored by the One who is far greater.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank You for sending Jesus, the One greater than all. Help me to walk in humility like John, never exalting myself above You. Teach me to serve faithfully in the little things, knowing You see my heart. I confess my dependence on Your power, not my own. Let my life always point to Jesus, the Savior who is worthy of all honor and glory.
