I don’t care what side of politics you’re on — this new open carry situation in Florida is beyond crazy. Now they’re saying people can walk around grocery stores, stores where families shop, kids play, and people are just trying to buy food, with guns hanging out on their hips. I’m sorry, but that’s not “freedom.” That’s a setup for disaster.

We’ve already seen what happens when everyone thinks they need to be armed. All it takes is one bad day, one argument, one unstable person, and someone ends up dead. And what’s so scary about this law is that it puts everyone in danger — not just the person carrying the gun. Imagine standing in the checkout line and suddenly someone’s weapon goes off by accident, or a fight breaks out over a parking spot. You could lose your life because someone else couldn’t control their temper.

The scripture says, “They that live by the sword shall die by the sword.” And that’s exactly what this feels like — we’re turning our communities into armed battle zones. God never intended for us to live like this. You can’t claim to love peace while you’re promoting fear. There’s a huge difference between protecting yourself and walking around like you’re in a war zone.

We’re talking about allowing people to carry firearms in grocery stores, of all places. The grocery store is supposed to be one of the safest, most neutral spaces in society — where moms, dads, and kids can just live their lives without fear. Now, it feels like even grabbing a gallon of milk could turn into a dangerous trip.

I get that people want their Second Amendment rights, but let’s be real here — how many people in this country are actually mentally or emotionally stable enough to carry a gun responsibly? Half the folks on the road can’t even merge without honking and flipping someone off, but now they’re allowed to carry guns into public spaces? Have you seen how much road rage happens in Florida alone? People are already pulling out weapons over something as small as getting cut off in traffic. So what happens when that same kind of anger follows them into a Publix, a Walmart, or a Target?

And let’s talk about accidents. Not every gun owner is trained. Some people don’t even know how to lock their safeties properly. So what happens when someone’s gun goes off by mistake and hits a child? Are we supposed to just say, “Oh, accidents happen”? No. That’s someone’s baby. That’s someone’s whole world gone because our state thinks open carry is a good idea.

What’s worse is that a lot of store employees are already scared to deal with theft or confrontation. Now you expect them to handle people with visible guns? No one making minimum wage is about to risk their life over groceries or stolen merchandise. And can you blame them? If someone walks out with unpaid items, who’s going to stop them? The cashier? The store manager? No, because nobody wants to be the next viral video or headline about a gunfight breaking out in aisle five.

We’ve reached a point where people are more afraid of each other than they are of actual criminals. Open carry doesn’t make people feel safer — it makes them anxious. It’s hard enough trying to survive this economy, keep your kids safe from disease and bad influences, and now we have to worry about someone pulling a gun over a disagreement about who was next in line? It’s insanity.

Honestly, I’ve started doing more of my shopping through apps. Yeah, it’s expensive. Yeah, they charge ridiculous fees. But at least I don’t have to worry about someone standing behind me with a pistol on their hip while I’m trying to grab bread and eggs. It’s a sad world when you have to avoid public spaces just to stay alive, but that’s what it’s becoming in Florida.

People keep saying, “Oh, it’s our right.” Okay, sure — it’s your right. But it’s also everyone else’s right to feel safe in public. We shouldn’t have to live in constant fear that one wrong word could turn into gunfire. When rights start putting other people’s lives at risk, that’s not freedom anymore — that’s chaos.

And I don’t care how the politicians try to spin it — this law isn’t about safety. It’s about politics and pandering. They want to make it look like they’re standing up for “freedom,” but what they’re really doing is setting us up for more bloodshed. Look around — we’ve had mass shootings at schools, malls, and churches. Now we’re inviting that energy into grocery stores? Come on.

We need to wake up as a country. Guns are not the solution to fear — they’re the cause of it. The Bible said it best: if you live by the sword, you will die by the sword. And right now, Florida’s government seems determined to make sure that prophecy comes true.
