Title: Strength for the Journey
Scripture:
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
— Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)
Life can be exhausting. From the moment we wake up to the moment we finally rest our heads, we face a myriad of demands—responsibilities at work, obligations at home, personal goals we’re striving toward, and unexpected setbacks that shake our momentum. Some days, we barely have enough emotional or physical energy to make it to the next hour. That’s when God’s Word becomes our lifeline.
Isaiah 40:31 is not just a beautiful passage; it is a promise. A divine assurance that when we wait upon the Lord—when we place our hope, trust, and expectation in Him—He will renew our strength.
This verse doesn’t promise a life without problems, but it does promise that you won’t walk through them alone or powerless. Think about the imagery: mount up with wings as eagles. Eagles soar high above storms. They use the wind—what others might see as a threat—to rise higher. When you place your life in God’s hands, He gives you the ability to rise above the storms, not because they disappear, but because you are strengthened by something greater than yourself.
“Wait upon the Lord” doesn’t mean sitting idly by. In the original Hebrew, the word “wait” (qavah) also carries the idea of binding together or twisting, like strands in a rope. It’s about actively intertwining your life with God’s. It means pursuing Him in prayer, leaning into His Word, seeking His direction, and trusting His timing.
When you feel weary, remember that God never grows tired. The verses just before Isaiah 40:31 remind us that the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth, does not faint or grow weary. His understanding is unsearchable. So when you feel like your strength has run out, it’s not the end—because His strength begins where yours ends.
There’s a divine exchange that takes place when we trust God. He takes your exhaustion and gives you endurance. He takes your weakness and gives you wings. He takes your limitations and gives you His limitless power.
Maybe today you woke up feeling overwhelmed. Maybe you’ve got a mountain to climb, a task you’re not sure you can complete, or an emotional burden you’ve been carrying far too long. God is not asking you to do it alone. He’s offering you a supernatural strength—one that the world cannot give.
Let today be the day you decide to stop striving in your own strength and start soaring in His.
Take a moment to pause and pray. Ask God to renew your spirit. Confess your weariness and invite Him to fill you with fresh energy, courage, and clarity. And then move forward—not in your own ability—but with the confidence that you are being carried by grace.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for being my source of strength when I feel weak. I confess that at times I’ve tried to do life on my own, and I’ve grown tired and discouraged. But today, I choose to wait upon You. Help me to trust in Your timing, lean into Your presence, and allow You to renew my strength. Lift me above my circumstances and help me to run this race without growing weary. I surrender my fatigue to You and receive Your power. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Reflection Questions:
- What areas of your life have you been trying to handle on your own?
- How can you “wait on the Lord” more actively this week through prayer, worship, or Scripture?
- What would it look like for you to “mount up with wings as eagles” today?
You are not alone. You are not powerless. With God, you have more than enough strength for the journey ahead. Keep going—your wings are waiting. 🕊️
