The book of Revelation begins with a profound and powerful statement: “The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John” (Revelation 1:1, NIV). This opening verse is not merely an introduction; it is a divine transmission of truth, hope, and warning for all believers. It reminds us that God is intentional about communicating with His people and that every word given through Jesus is meant to prepare, inspire, and encourage us for what lies ahead.

At the heart of this scripture is a chain of divine revelation. God the Father gives a message to Jesus Christ. Jesus, in His authority and mercy, passes that message along through an angel to John—His faithful servant. John, in turn, writes these things down for us. This is not just a message to be read once and forgotten; it is a living word, a prophecy, and a promise that points us toward God’s ultimate plan for humanity. It shows God’s deep desire to involve His people in the unfolding of His eternal kingdom.

The phrase what must soon take place” is not meant to scare but to awaken. It’s a call to be vigilant and spiritually alert. We are living in a time when distractions are many and faith is tested daily. Yet, the same Jesus who walked this earth and sacrificed His life for our salvation is the one revealing what is to come. His desire is that none of us be caught unaware, but that we stand ready—clothed in righteousness, walking in truth, and filled with His Spirit.

This divine message also reveals the love of Christ for His people. Jesus doesn’t keep secrets from us; He desires transparency with His followers. He gives us insight so that we are not blindsided by the world’s deception or discouraged by its troubles. Knowing that God is in control of the future gives us strength to face the present. The same God who sent the message is the One who will walk us through the journey.

We must also be inspired by John’s obedience. Despite being exiled to the island of Patmos, John remained in a place to hear from God. He didn’t allow isolation or persecution to silence his purpose. Even in a lonely place, God found him useful. This tells us that no matter where we are in life—whether on a mountain or in a valley—God can reach us, speak to us, and use us for His glory.
