Story Starter: It was a sunny Saturday morning in the city, and the community park was alive with families, kids playing, and neighbors enjoying the day. Among the crowd, a man sat alone on a bench, looking tired and worried. Some people walked past him without a glance, while others offered a polite nod.
A young woman named Mia noticed him and felt a tug in her heart. She remembered Jesus’ words: “Love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:31). But she was also in a hurry—she had errands to run, and she worried about her own safety.
Mia paused and prayed silently, asking God to guide her actions. She then had several options in her mind:
Community Choice – What should Mia do?
Approach him and offer food or water, striking up a conversation to see if he needed help.
Sit quietly nearby and pray for him, hoping God would guide someone else to help.
Invite him to a nearby church event or community meal, giving him a chance to connect with others in faith.
Do nothing for now, but plan to come back later with support or resources.
Instructions for members:
Vote for one of the options above or submit your own idea for how Mia should respond.
Feel free to add dialogue, describe the man’s reaction, or share scripture that inspires the next step.
At the end of the week, the community vote will decide the next part of the story, and we’ll continue the parable together!
Optional Scripture Prompt: “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.” – Matthew 25:35
Maybe Mia should do nothing immediately, but plan to come back later with more support. Sometimes we need to be wise and prepared to provide lasting help, not just quick fixes. Proverbs 16:3 reminds us to commit our plans to the Lord, so taking time to plan could be a thoughtful, faith-driven approach.”

“Mia could invite him to a church meal or community event. Feeling connected and supported can restore hope in people who are struggling. This gives him not only physical help but spiritual encouragement. Hebrews 10:24-25 talks about encouraging one another, and this is a perfect way to live that out.”

“I think Mia should sit quietly nearby and pray for him. God knows our hearts, and sometimes the best way to help is to lift someone up in prayer first. Maybe God will guide Mia or someone else to the right way to serve him. Psalm 34:17 says that the Lord hears the righteous when they cry out—this could be that moment.”

“Mia should walk up to him and offer some water or food. Sometimes small acts of kindness show God’s love more than words. Even just sitting with him and listening could make a huge difference in his day. Matthew 25:35 reminds us to help those in need, and this is a perfect chance to do just that!”
