Family in Christ, my heart is heavy as I share this news, yet it is also steadfast in hope because we serve a God who is able to do the impossible.
This weekend, tragedy struck during a high school football game in Ohio. Mayson White, a dedicated young athlete from Tuscarawas Valley High School, suffered a devastating injury that has shaken not only his team but the entire community.
According to Waynedale Athletics, the incident occurred in the second quarter of Friday’s game. What should have been a night filled with competition and school spirit turned into a moment of horror when Mayson collided hard during play. He had to be carted off the field, leaving fans, teammates, and parents in stunned silence.
On Sunday, the Tuscarawas Valley Local School District released an update that revealed the extent of his injuries: Mayson fractured his C4 vertebra, which caused dangerous pressure on his spine. He underwent emergency surgery at Akron Children’s Hospital on Saturday. While the doctors worked to stabilize him, the sobering reality is that Mayson has been left paralyzed from the injury.
As a mother and a believer, I cannot even begin to imagine the fear and pain his parents must be experiencing right now—watching their son go from running on the football field to being confined to a hospital bed in the blink of an eye. These are the kinds of moments that test not just the body, but the spirit. And yet, even here, we find reason to hope.
The community’s outpouring of support has been nothing short of incredible. Messages of prayer, love, and encouragement have flooded social media. The hashtag #PrayForMayson has begun circulating, and vigils are being organized by classmates and neighbors. His teammates, once his brothers on the field, are now his prayer warriors off of it. This is the body of Christ in action—bearing one another’s burdens.
Doctors have done what they can medically, but as believers, we know the story does not end there. We serve the Great Physician, who has the power to bring healing beyond what medical charts predict. Scripture reminds us: “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26).
Right now, Mayson’s family has asked for continued prayers—prayers for healing, for strength, for courage, and for a miracle. They are clinging to hope, and so must we.
This is more than just a story about football. This is about a young life interrupted, about a family being called to walk through the valley of uncertainty, and about a community rallying together in faith.
Let us commit ourselves as a forum family to cover Mayson in prayer. Pray not only for physical restoration, but also for his emotional and spiritual well-being. Pray for his doctors and caregivers at Akron Children’s Hospital, for wisdom and steady hands. Pray for his parents, who are walking a road no parent should have to walk.
If you are reading this tonight, pause for just a moment—right now—and lift Mayson’s name before the Lord. And do not stop. Let our prayers be as constant as the breath in our lungs.
I truly believe miracles still happen, and though we may not yet see what God is doing, He is moving. Let us stand with the White family, believing for complete healing, trusting God’s plan, and refusing to give up hope.
Stay strong, Mayson. We are all praying for you.
In Christ’s love,
Linda
