I don’t usually post stuff like this, but reading about Buster Skrine has left me feeling angry, heartbroken, and honestly, just drained. Former NFL cornerback Buster Skrine was arrested Wednesday morning at his home in Roswell, Georgia, and charged with 18 counts connected to a financial fraud scheme. What makes it worse is that he allegedly targeted women on dating platforms, using their trust and kindness against them.
Authorities say Skrine is also a wanted fugitive in Canada on similar charges. He had previously been arrested there in August 2023 for a $100,000 check fraud case. After being released on bail in April 2024 with a GPS monitor, he reportedly removed the device and fled to the U.S. Now he’s facing multiple charges here, including deposit account fraud, identity fraud, financial transaction card fraud, theft by taking, and criminal attempt to commit theft.
From what I’ve read, Skrine used dating apps to establish relationships with his victims, then spun elaborate lies about financial struggles and promised repayment from his NFL annuity. At least three victims have been identified so far, with losses totaling roughly $300,000. And authorities believe there may be even more victims across the country. Meanwhile, Skrine is said to have used the stolen money to fund a lavish lifestyle—Airbnb rentals, travel, and even gift cards. It’s just disgusting when you think about how much someone can betray trust for selfish gain.
As a faith-based person, this really hits me on another level. Scripture reminds us in Proverbs 12:22: “The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy.” Here’s a man who had fame, money, and opportunity, yet he chose deception and greed over integrity. It’s a sobering reminder that wealth or status doesn’t protect anyone from moral failure, and it calls on all of us to stay vigilant and compassionate, especially toward those who are vulnerable.
I also think about the victims—how hurt and betrayed they must feel. When someone you trust manipulates your emotions and steals from you, it leaves scars that aren’t just financial. My heart goes out to them, and I hope they find comfort and justice. This is why community awareness is so important. If you’ve ever interacted with someone online who seems off, trust your instincts. And if anyone has information about other victims or incidents, the authorities are asking people to come forward.
I’m sharing this not to scare anyone but to warn and protect. As Galatians 6:7 says: “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” Buster Skrine is now facing the consequences of his actions, but we can also use this as a learning moment: protect yourself, stay alert, and remember that your faith and discernment matter in every part of life—including online relationships.
Let’s keep the victims in our prayers, hold the perpetrators accountable, and make sure our communities stay safe. God calls us to care for the vulnerable, and this is a stark reminder of why that duty is so important.

Travis, man, I hear you, and I can’t stop thinking about this story. It’s honestly gut-wrenching. To think someone who had everything—fame, opportunities, resources—could go around lying to women, manipulating their trust, and stealing from them… it just makes my stomach turn. I keep thinking about those victims, the fear and heartbreak they must feel. Losing money is one thing, but losing trust, feeling betrayed—it cuts deep.
Reading about how he used dating apps to charm and manipulate people really hit me. It’s a reminder that even in spaces where we hope for connection or love, there are people who take advantage of kindness. It makes me pray for wisdom for everyone navigating these platforms, and for protection for the vulnerable. And honestly, it makes me reflect on my own actions and intentions too—are we living in honesty and integrity every day? Proverbs 12:22 hits harder than ever here: “The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy.”
What bothers me even more is how calculated this was. Skrine fled Canada after being on bail with GPS monitoring—this wasn’t a mistake, it was intentional. And now we see the results of that deception hurting even more people. Reading Galatians 6:7 keeps coming to mind: “A man reaps what he sows.” I just hope justice comes, not just legally but spiritually too, and that those he hurt can find healing and support.
It’s a tough world out here, Travis. Stories like this make me realize how much we need each other—not just for safety, but to remind each other to live with integrity, honesty, and faith. We need to watch out for one another, speak up, and hold people accountable when they exploit trust.
Thanks for sharing this. It’s heavy, but these conversations matter. It’s a call to vigilance, prayer, and community care. Let’s keep the victims in our prayers and use this as a reminder to live with integrity and compassion in all areas of our lives.
