I just have to get this off my chest because I’ve been thinking about it all day. Yesterday, I was talking to my sister, and she works in government. She was telling me that since Trump’s been in office, there’s been a lot of turnover at her workplace. People are being fired left and right, and it’s making her feel uneasy. I can’t even imagine what that’s like—to come to work and wonder if your job is safe or if you’ll be next.

She mentioned that some of the people who were let go have been there for years, doing their jobs faithfully and honestly. They weren’t doing anything wrong, but somehow they were the ones chosen to go. That’s the part that really worries me—if it’s not about performance or misconduct, what is it about? It makes me question how decisions are being made and whether politics are taking over in places that should be stable.
The thing that gets me is that she’s genuinely proud of her work. She’s always been committed to serving the public and trying to make a difference. And now, it feels like all that hard work could be erased overnight just because of some arbitrary decision. She’s not alone in feeling this way either. From what she tells me, a lot of her colleagues are stressed and anxious. They’re walking on eggshells, worried that the next round of firings might include them. Can you imagine living in that kind of tension every single day at work?
It’s frustrating because I know people need stability. Government work has always been about consistency and serving the public responsibly. It’s not just about filling positions; it’s about having experienced, dedicated people who can do their jobs well. When you start constantly replacing people, it feels like the focus shifts from public service to politics and power plays. And honestly, it’s scary to think about the impact that could have on the services we rely on as everyday citizens.
My sister is trying to stay positive, but I can hear the worry in her voice. She’s thinking about the long-term effects this could have—not just on morale in her office, but also on her own career and future plans. People work hard to get where they are, and it feels unfair when that hard work can be dismissed so suddenly.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that hearing about all this from someone I care about really put things into perspective for me. It’s one thing to hear news reports or read headlines, but it’s another to hear a personal account from someone you trust. It makes the situation feel real, and it makes me reflect on what kind of work environment we want to create and maintain.
I don’t claim to have all the answers, but I just felt like sharing this because I think a lot of people might be feeling the same way—anxious, frustrated, and unsure about what the future holds at their jobs. I hope things calm down, and that fairness and respect for hard-working employees can become a priority again.
Thanks for reading and letting me get this off my chest.
