Hi everyone, it’s Margret here.

I’ve been sitting with the news all day about the man suspected of killing Dacara Thompson being held without bail. And even though part of me feels a little relief that he won’t just be walking the streets right now, I can’t help but feel like this isn’t enough. There are still too many unanswered questions, and it hurts that we’re not being told more.

Dacara wasn’t just another name in the headlines — she was a young woman with a life ahead of her. And for me, what keeps me up at night is knowing she willingly got in the car with these men. That means she trusted them in some way. Maybe she thought they were friends, maybe she thought she was safe. And that’s the part that breaks me. She should’ve never ended up in harm’s way like this, but she did — and it shows us how betrayal and danger can hide behind a familiar face.

I’m still hurt by how little detail has been given about her final moments. The community deserves to know more, and her family deserves the truth. We keep hearing bits and pieces, but nothing that paints the full picture of what really happened. How many more times do families have to beg for answers before the system starts being transparent with us?

It feels like we’re expected to just move on with half the story, but I can’t. I won’t. Every time I see her name, I think about how preventable this could have been. I think about how her trust was used against her. And I think about how her life ended too soon because of decisions that never should have been made.

We need to keep saying her name. We need to keep asking the hard questions. And we need to keep the pressure on until every detail is brought to light. Because Dacara deserved better. Her family deserves better. And all of us deserve to live in a world where women don’t have to fear that stepping into the wrong car will be the end of their story.

Rest easy, Dacara. We won’t stop until the truth comes out.

— Margret
