I know the title may sound strange—“Why many Christians are not Christians”—but when you stop and look at how we treat one another, the reality becomes clear. God gave us a command that is not optional: love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you (Matthew 5:44). This is at the very heart of what it means to follow Christ. If we cannot love those who wrong us, if we cannot pray for those who treat us badly, then something in our walk is deeply off.

God is love. That is His nature. And one thing He continually shows us is that He is a God of chances. He gives people opportunities to grow, to repent, to turn their hearts back to Him. Just because someone doesn’t look the part, or doesn’t live out every line of Scripture perfectly, does not mean they are unworthy of His Spirit. God’s Spirit can work through anyone. Yet too often, we forget this truth.

What I see happening today—especially in politics and society—is that many people who claim to follow Christ are more concerned with man-made rules than God’s rules. They follow agendas, parties, and personalities rather than following Jesus. But God doesn’t call us to hate. He doesn’t call us to be vile, corrupt, or cruel. If we want to lead, if we want to correct, if we want to uphold the law, then we must do it with generosity, patience, and kindness.

Think about this: if someone comes into our country and they are not abiding by the law, explain the law to them. Show them the truth. But do it in God’s way—without hate, without partiality. Our nation has been running on anger for far too long. People have been tearing each other down, and then we wonder why nothing changes.

It is heartbreaking to watch people who claim the name of Christ speak curses over others, mock their enemies, and act with bitterness. It should be a wake-up call for all of us. Whether you call yourself MAGA, Democrat, Republican, or independent, none of that will matter on Judgment Day. God is not swayed by party lines. His Word is still His Word. His law is still His law. And His greatest command is still this: love your neighbor as yourself (Mark 12:31).

If you have hurt a group of people, admit it. If your words or actions caused pain, acknowledge it. Humility is God’s way. But what we see too often is people justifying wrong behavior with excuses, pride, and blame. That is not of God. Scripture reminds us again and again—do not speak down on others, do not tear them apart with your words. Instead, speak life. Proverbs 18:21 tells us the power of life and death is in the tongue. How can we invite people into the kingdom of God if the only thing they hear from Christians is condemnation, name-calling, and rejection?

Christians are supposed to reflect Christ. Christ loved. Christ forgave. Christ prayed for His executioners even as He hung on the cross. So how is it that we, who call ourselves by His name, find it so easy to hate? Out of passage after passage, it is clear what God wants from us: mercy, compassion, humility, and love.

The sad truth is that many people think they know God, but they do not. They know church. They know religion. They know politics. But they don’t know Him. And because of that, they misrepresent Him to the world. People walk away from Christianity not because of Christ, but because of Christians who fail to act like Christ.

God offers us all a chance to change. He says in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you…plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” That is His heart toward us. But if we cannot extend that same hope to our neighbor—if we tear them down one moment and then preach to them the next—we are hypocrites. We cannot be double-minded. Jesus said clearly in John 14:21 that the true test of love for Him is obedience to His commands.

It’s time we get our hearts in order. No one is perfect, but perfection isn’t what God is asking for. What He wants is sincerity, repentance, and love. He wants His people to be a reflection of His Son. Every person deserves room to make mistakes—as long as they are willing to correct them.

So let’s stop twisting God into something He is not. Let’s stop using His name to justify hate. And let’s return to what He has always called us to do: love Him with all our heart, soul, and mind, and love our neighbors as ourselves. That is Christianity. Anything less falls short.

Would you like me to also create a shorter version (around 300–350 words) that could work as a social media post or forum entry, alongside this longer one?
