Hey y’all, it’s Sheila here, and I just have to get this off my chest because it’s been bothering me for a long while now. I feel like every time I go on Reddit lately, it’s less about the community and more about controlling the conversation. And honestly, it looks like Google and Reddit are in cahoots. They pat each other on the back while regular people like us get shut down, banned, and tossed aside like we don’t matter.

I’ve noticed how Google props up Reddit in search results like it’s the holy grail of online answers. You type in anything, and boom—Reddit threads are right there at the top. Now, I wouldn’t care if that actually meant free and open conversations, but it doesn’t. Because the moment you say something they don’t like, especially if it goes against the big platforms like YouTube or touches on controversial stuff, suddenly your account disappears. Poof. Gone. No explanation. No warning. Just silence.

And let’s be real—Google owns YouTube. They’re not gonna let people trash talk YouTube too hard on Reddit without stepping in. I’ve seen it happen over and over. People make legit complaints about YouTube—about censorship, demonetization, favoritism, whatever—and then those threads either get locked or removed, or the accounts tied to them get banned. It’s like they want to make you feel like you’re crazy for even asking the question. And if you try to comment? Sometimes the comment sections magically close down, like we’re all just supposed to sit there and shut up.

It reminds me of what happened with Rumble. Remember that? For a long time, Google tried to bury Rumble in the search results because it was seen as a competitor. They didn’t want people to even know it existed. And now, I see the same kind of energy happening with Reddit and Google. If they can work together to push down the voices they don’t like, they can pretty much control the whole narrative online. Think about that—one company working hand-in-hand with one platform, deciding what we get to see and what we don’t. That’s not the internet I signed up for.

What really gets me mad is the banning without explanation. Like, why even let people create accounts if you’re just gonna pull the plug on them with no reason? I’ve had friends tell me they logged in one day and bam—their account was suspended. No warning email. No “hey, you broke this rule.” Nothing. Just gone. Imagine putting years into building karma, saving posts, connecting with people, and then losing it all overnight because some admin didn’t like what you said. That’s not moderation—that’s straight up silencing.

And it’s not like we can even appeal properly. There’s no real way to talk to anyone behind the curtain. Reddit doesn’t give you a clear answer, and Google sure isn’t going to step in on our behalf. So what do we get? A brick wall. It makes me wonder if the whole setup is intentional. Like, if you’re too controversial, you’re out. If you call out Google, YouTube, or even Reddit itself, you’re out. They don’t want free speech; they want controlled speech.

Honestly, it sucks. I wish there was a system where if you did get banned, at least you’d get a straight answer. Like, “Hey Sheila, we banned you for XYZ reason.” At least then you could understand what happened. But the silence? That’s what feels shady. It feels like they’re hiding the real reason—which is that you said something they didn’t want the world to see.

At the end of the day, I think we all know what’s going on. Big tech companies are scratching each other’s backs. Reddit’s popularity in Google search isn’t about Reddit being the “best” source—it’s about Google knowing it can control the flow there. And once you control the flow, you control the conversation. And once you control the conversation, you control the people.

I don’t know about you, but I’m tired of it. I’m tired of walking on eggshells online, wondering if the next comment I post is gonna get me banned for no reason. I’m tired of not having answers. And I’m especially tired of these platforms acting like they’re giving us a voice, when in reality they’re just making sure only the voices they like get heard.

Anyway, that’s my rant. I know some people might disagree, but I’m speaking from what I’ve seen and what I’ve experienced. And if you’ve been banned without reason or silenced for speaking your mind, just know you’re not alone.

I feel you, Sheila. The banning with no explanation is the worst part. I lost an account I’d had for years, and all I did was ask why YouTube was demonetizing smaller creators. Next day—boom, account gone. No email, no reason, no appeal. Just like you said, there’s no communication. It’s like talking to a brick wall. And yeah, the connection between Google, YouTube, and Reddit is way too obvious now. They’re all protecting each other. The sad part is, Reddit used to feel like a real community. Now it feels like just another arm of big tech control.
