So I’ve been sitting with something that Ya Girl Renae said recently, and it really got me thinking. She talked about how both Republicans and Democrats are lost, and honestly, I couldn’t agree more. When you take a step back, you start to realize that each side has their flaws, their agendas, and their hypocrisies. And it makes you wonder—why are we spending so much time trying to lean on political systems when what we really need is to get back to God?
That hit me hard. Because it’s true, we live in a world where people call God’s name all the time, but very few actually live by His word. We throw His name around when we’re in trouble, or when we want to prove a point, but then we turn right back around and live however we want. And I say “we” because I know I’ve done it too. It’s not easy. Following Christ isn’t just about knowing the scriptures or showing up at church—it’s about living it daily. And that’s the part that Renae was pointing to: the relationship.
Now, one thing that really stuck out to me was her message about “becoming.” That word has been echoing in my mind: becoming. What does it mean to truly “become” for Christ? At first, I thought it just meant trying to be a better person. But the more I sit with it, the more I see that it’s deeper than that. Becoming is about transformation. It’s about dying to who you used to be, and letting God shape who you’re meant to be.
The Bible talks about this idea a lot. Paul said in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.” That right there is the definition of becoming. It’s about no longer being tied down by the old you—your sins, your mistakes, your selfish ways—and instead stepping into a new life that is led by Christ.
But here’s the hard part: how do you know you’re actually on the right track? That’s where I’ve been struggling too. I’m new in Christ, and sometimes I wonder if I’m doing enough. Am I praying the right way? Am I reading enough scripture? Am I loving people the way God wants me to? And honestly, those doubts can eat at you. But I’ve come to realize that the very fact that we’re asking those questions means that God is working in us. Because before, I didn’t care about any of that. Now I do. And that’s a sign of change.
Becoming is also about learning to put others before yourself. I’ll be real with you—this is tough for me. We’re so used to living in a world that says, “Do what makes you happy,” “Put yourself first,” “Follow your truth.” But when you start following Christ, it flips everything upside down. It’s no longer just about what you want—it’s about what God wants. And often, that means looking at the needs, the hurts, and the feelings of others before your own. When you shift your focus from yourself to others, you start to see the heart of Christ more clearly. Because He lived His whole life serving, loving, and giving.
Another thing Renae said about “dying for God” really stuck with me. At first, it sounded heavy, almost scary. But now I get it. Dying for God doesn’t always mean physical death. It means killing the old habits, the old desires, and the old ways of living that separate us from Him. It means saying no to things that might poison your spirit, like gossip, unforgiveness, or even substances that cloud your judgment. And instead, feeding your spirit the things of God—prayer, worship, kindness, patience, and love.
I’ll be honest: I’m still learning. I don’t have it all figured out. But messages like the ones Renae shares remind me that becoming is a journey. It’s not about being perfect overnight—it’s about being willing to grow, step by step. Some days, you’ll feel like you’ve got it all together, and other days, you’ll stumble. But that’s okay, because even in the stumbling, God is working.
So I guess my big takeaway is this: becoming for Christ means surrendering yourself daily and letting Him reshape you into who He’s called you to be. It’s about moving from just calling His name to actually living His word. It’s about letting go of your way and choosing His way, even when it’s hard.
I’m curious—what do you guys think about Renae’s message? Have you also struggled with this idea of “becoming”? And how do you personally know when you’re on the right track with your walk with Christ? I’d love to hear how others are navigating this journey too.
If You Are Asking GOD For Wisdom Make Sure You Know What It Is
One of the most important things we can understand as people of faith is that when we ask God for wisdom, it should not be because of the benefits that might come…

One thing that’s helped me is surrounding myself with other believers who are serious about their walk. When you’re around people who are also “becoming,” it motivates you to stay focused. Iron sharpens iron.
Julia, I think it’s beautiful that you’re new in Christ and already asking these deep questions. That shows your heart is in the right place. Don’t get discouraged when you stumble. God’s grace covers us as we grow.
I came to Christ after years of living completely opposite of His will. When I look back now, I realize that the “becoming” process wasn’t overnight. God kept stripping away old things and teaching me new ways. Don’t rush it—you’ll see the fruit in time.
For me, “becoming” started with small daily habits. Reading a chapter a day, praying before I pick up my phone, and just being kinder when I want to snap at someone. It’s the little choices that shape the big transformation.
I’m glad you mentioned the politics part. It’s so true. Neither Republicans nor Democrats are going to save us. Only God can. I think too many of us put hope in systems instead of Christ, and that’s why we’re so disappointed all the time.
It’s true Nathan. So many people are following politics and they’re following these people who are leaders and they’re thinking they’re God. They’re acting like these people are literally the ones who gave them life. It’s sad because they’re all in a cult and they don’t even realize it.
This post reminded me of Romans 12:2—“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” That’s what Ya Girl Renae was talking about with becoming. We can’t just blend in with the world and call ourselves new creations.
I feel you on this. I’ve been walking with Christ for a couple years now, and honestly, I still struggle with the “dying to self” part. I like to be in control of my life, but every time I surrender, I see more peace and less stress. Becoming really is about trust.
Julia, I love how you broke this down. You’re so right—becoming is about transformation. It’s not about having it all figured out right now, it’s about letting God do the work in us little by little. You’re already on the right track just by caring enough to ask these questions. Ya Girl Renae is truly gifted by GOD I learn so much from her podcast
I agree with you. Just the fact that Julia is even hungry for more shows God is already doing a work. Sometimes we expect a big “aha” moment, but most of the time it’s those little shifts in our heart that prove He’s moving.
