Hey family, it’s Ya Girl Renae here, and today on Keeping Up With Renae, I want to talk about something God pressed on my heart. He told me to stop using the phrase “I’m human” as an excuse every time I fell short. That hit me hard, because I realized I had been leaning on those two words as a crutch instead of leaning on the Spirit that God gave me.
Now, let’s be real—yes, we are human. Yes, we live in fleshly bodies that crave comfort, pleasure, and sometimes the very things that can harm us. But once we’ve accepted Christ, He gives us His Spirit as a helper, a comforter, and a guide. The Spirit is not some distant, abstract thing—it’s the living presence of God inside us. When I caught myself saying, “Well, I’m only human,” what I was really doing was excusing behavior that I already knew I could fight with the help of the Spirit.
God reminded me that nothing is too difficult when I trust Him. The Bible says in John 14:26 that the Holy Spirit is our advocate, teaching us all things and reminding us of everything Jesus taught. That means when temptation comes or when I feel weak, I don’t have to rely on me. I don’t have to shrug it off like, “Oh well, I’m just human.” No—God has given me power beyond myself.
That doesn’t mean life won’t get rough. It doesn’t mean I won’t stumble sometimes. The Word makes it clear that trials will come, and mistakes are part of learning. But the key is this: there are some mistakes we can prevent. There are choices we can stop making if we’re willing to pause, pray, and let the Spirit lead us.
I’ll give you an example from my own life. I used to find myself snapping back at people real quick, even when I knew it wasn’t necessary. I’d justify it by saying, “I’m human, I can’t help it.” But God reminded me—yes, I’m human, but I also have the Spirit of self-control (Galatians 5:22-23). When I surrendered that excuse, I started to feel the Spirit check me in those heated moments. Instead of reacting, I learned to breathe, to wait, and to let His peace cover me.
Every time we lean on “I’m human” as an excuse, we deny the power God has already placed in us. It’s like saying the Spirit isn’t enough when in reality, the Spirit is more than enough. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us (Romans 8:11). If that power could conquer death, then surely it can help us conquer a bad attitude, a bad habit, or a temptation we face in everyday life.
So, here’s my encouragement to you: stop limiting yourself with excuses. Start reminding yourself of the Helper inside you. When you fall, get back up, but don’t stay down just because “you’re human.” Rise with the Spirit, learn from it, and let it make you stronger.
At the end of the day, this walk with God is all a learning experience. We’re growing, we’re changing, and we’re becoming more like Christ every single day. But we can’t keep hiding behind excuses. God is calling us to live higher, and with His Spirit, we can.
That’s today’s word from me on Keeping Up With Renae. Stay strong, stay encouraged, and most importantly, stay Spirit-led.
Don’t Let Your Issues Become Your Stumbling Block
Life will happen. Mistakes will happen. Situations will happen that we never expected. But none of those things should become the stumbling block that keeps us from continuing our walk…

Exactly, I love this so much. I cannot wait to hear so much more. And I would like to add that. That is why God said that there will not be a safe place for people. People are looking for a safe place to go to someone they can trust and they can feel confident that God hears them. But when you have so many people trying to make people feel less then it really causes them to not truly see God and know who he is. God loves those who accepts his people even when they may not be on the right track. But they give them guidance to help them learn how to be better. You are truly a blessing from God
This reminds me of when the Bible said that when so many will come to God and say Lord Lord, I cast out demons in your name and God says back away from me. I never knew you because at the end of the day. All they did was do it for show and they did it because they wanted to break the spirits of people rather than helping people. And at the end of the day, I do feel like a lot of people believe they’re helping people by tearing them down. But God says us different. It’s not the same. You can’t tear people down and hurt their spirit. You’re really hindering people from receiving God. You’re not helping them.
Real talk, a lot of people in the church think that they’re right. They call out sin as if it’s literally beating people down. And I’m like what are we doing. Like if you want someone to hear your word, they’re going to be more inclined to want to listen if you’re not tearing down their spirit. This happened. Also with Gino Jennings. I started seeing a lot of his stuff and I do agree on a lot of what he says. But still you got to have a type of class when you’re doing certain things. This is going to run people away and not make them want to be a part of the Gospel. Jesus was very much spreading the word and was inviting sinners to be a part of it because he knew that they just wanted to be loved. But nobody’s going to want to be told they’re not worthy and then say come to Christ. And that’s why so many even the elect would be fooled. I see these same things happen on YouTube. It’s just a repeated cycle and I’m glad that you have created a space for people to come to that. They can really truly hear the word of God and truly help others see his love.
This was a big reason why I straight away from YouTube. I started seeing some of the creators, do stuff out of malice and really it was just about getting the numbers up. But you can Nic pick people all day but if you’re not giving people the word that they need, how is that helping them. This is why most of the Christian channels have turned over to gossip because they know that’s what’s going to get the clicks and abuse. They rather fight with each other than to just share the word of God. I started seeing a lot of change in a lot of creators. I’m not going to say their names but some major creators online. It seems like all they care about is people listening to them for the click factor and they want to go head-to-head with people and argue back and forth. But yet they’re not giving people the word of God. And this is why a lot of people don’t trust the church anymore.
And most importantly is that a lot of people don’t understand their true power. You know you have power when you can trust God even when you don’t understand. That is how we do become better people and God is saying we need to change our ways because we’re taught wrong by everything that we saw, and as you said before, when politics and all this stuff get in it does make it hard for most people to see the good and stuff because they’re so caught up in seeing all the wrong in it 💓
This is so very true. I like the part when you were talking about the leaders because truly the leaders have been a big problem because they’re not leading by example. If you want people to follow your example, you have to show by leading them the right way. And as you said before, being a leader is about being a servant. You got to give more than you take.
