A woman leaning into a car while using a smartphone displaying a ride-sharing app, with an Uber logo visible next to her.

Man, let me tell y’all about the sketchiest Uber delivery I ever had. And no, I ain’t talking about driving people around. I’m talking Uber’s package delivery thing. Most of the time it’s simple stuff—somebody forgot their keys, a box of snacks, maybe a random Amazon-looking box. But this one? This one had me feeling like I was in the middle of an episode of Narcos: Tampa Bay Edition.

So I roll up, grab the package from this lady. And right away, my spidey senses start tingling. You ever touch something and just know it’s not right? That bag was too…mysterious. Not heavy enough for clothes, not light enough for paperwork. Nah, this was that “hmmm, what in the Pablo Escobar is going on here?” weight.

Now here’s the problem: I can’t open it. Uber rules. I can’t sniff it—I’m not trying to catch a sinus infection. And I can’t shake it around like it’s Christmas morning. So I’m just sitting there, stuck with this suspicious package, like, “Cool. If this bag really got drugs in it, guess who’s the mule now? Me!”

And I’m telling you, the whole drive I was sweating like a preacher in a strip club. Every time I passed a cop car, my heart dropped into my shoes. I’m picturing the sirens, the lights, me pulled over on the side of the road trying to explain:

“Officer, listen, I swear I’m not slinging anything illegal. Check my phone, see? It’s Uber! GPS and everything! I’m not Walter White, I’m just Walter Broke.”

Meanwhile, the cop’s like, “Yeah sure, buddy, that’s what they all say.” And boom, now I’m in the back of a squad car for a crime I didn’t even know I was committing.

And it ain’t just me being paranoid either. I saw this same thing on DoorDash news, where a driver reported a suspicious package headed to a hotel. Like—bruh—nothing screams “not suspicious” like delivering a mystery bag to a shady hotel at 11 p.m. People are bold. Desperate too. Folks used to hustle candy at school—now they’re trying to run full-on drug drops through Uber.

But here’s what makes me mad: how are we drivers supposed to know? If it’s drugs, weapons, a brick of cash, or even just some smelly socks—how do we tell the difference? We’re basically blindfolded couriers. And if we do get caught, you already know the story won’t be, “Oh, poor innocent Uber driver.” Nope. It’ll be: “Uber drug mule busted.” My mom watching the news like, “Robert, I told you to get a real job.”

And I get it—Uber can’t exactly give us X-ray vision. But man, would it kill them to add a “scan your package” feature? Something like, “Congratulations, this bag contains Doritos, not heroin!” That would take the edge off a little bit.

Because right now, we’re just guessing. And the paranoia gets to you. I caught myself practicing in the car what I’d say if I got pulled over. Like, full rehearsal:
“Officer, this isn’t mine, I swear. Please write that down. Put it in bold.”

The funny part is, criminals trusting Uber drivers to move their product is kinda dumb when you think about it. Like bro, you really gonna hand your “merchandise” to a guy named Rob who makes $7 a delivery and drinks gas station coffee for energy? That’s your criminal mastermind plan? Might as well put a big red sticker on the bag that says, “Arrest me.”

Honestly, it just shows how people will try anything nowadays. They think, “Who’s gonna check a delivery driver?” But what they don’t realize is, all it takes is one nosy cop or one bad traffic stop, and suddenly I’m the star of a Netflix documentary called From Five Stars to Federal Time: The Uber Drug Mule Story.

So yeah, that’s where I’m at. Still out here grinding, but low-key watching my packages like they might explode. And if y’all see my name in the paper, please remember: I told you about this first. Somebody start a GoFundMe and make sure to leave me a five-star rating on my commissary account.

What do y’all think? Am I tripping, or are we really just one sketchy delivery away from becoming unwilling extras in a DEA sting?

– Rob

You have to be very careful with these apps because you never know what you’re actually delivering. You know Uber and doordash have had a lot of issues with their service. I’m really sad that this is actually come to this but clearly there has to be some type of regulations. I don’t think that Uber or doordash and figured out all of the kinks when they started putting out their services. It’s really sad because a lot of people are going to lose money behind just negligence of not knowing how to operate a company.
