I wanted to talk about Caring Community Counseling because when people are looking for therapy or mental health treatment, I think they should know as much as possible before deciding where to receive care. Caring Community Counseling provides mental health services for people dealing with different circumstances and mental health concerns. Some people may be receiving Social Security or other assistance, while others may simply be looking for counseling, psychiatric care, or additional mental health support. This is especially important because when someone is already struggling emotionally, the experience they have with a mental health facility can make a major difference.

One of the biggest concerns I remember hearing about Caring Community Counseling, particularly in the past, involved communication and the administrative side of the office. I want to make it clear that I am not saying everyone’s experience is the same, and I am not saying the organization hasn’t improved. I’m talking about concerns that I personally became aware of and experiences that people shared. One issue involved communication with front-desk staff. Some people felt as though they weren’t always being heard or treated with enough consideration when they were trying to get help. When you’re dealing with people who may already be depressed, overwhelmed, anxious, or experiencing other mental health challenges, the way they are treated from the moment they walk through the door matters.

Another concern involved communication between the doctors or mental health providers and the administrative staff. There were situations where people felt that a provider had made a request, but somehow the information wasn’t properly communicated or followed through by the office. There were also complaints about calls, appointments, and paperwork. Some people said they weren’t always contacted the way they expected to be about their appointments. When you’re operating a mental health facility, these administrative responsibilities are extremely important because the patient depends on the entire organization—not just the therapist or doctor.

Something else that stood out to me was that some providers appeared to be working remotely or from outside the immediate area. I remember hearing about providers who were located as far away as California while treating patients remotely. I don’t necessarily see that as a negative thing because telehealth has become extremely common, and Caring Community Counseling currently advertises telehealth as one of its services. My concern has always been whether communication between remote providers, patients, and the local administrative staff is strong enough to keep everything running smoothly.

I also want to give credit where credit is due: I have heard good things about some of the doctors and therapists themselves. My criticism isn’t about saying that every provider there is bad, because that would not be fair. In fact, there have been people who really liked their providers. My concern is what can happen when you have good mental health professionals working inside a system where administrative communication isn’t always as strong as it should be. A great therapist can do wonderful work, but if the patient is struggling to get an appointment scheduled, doesn’t receive a callback, has paperwork issues, or has a difficult interaction with the front office, that can affect the patient’s entire experience.

As someone who has studied psychology, one of the things I’ve learned is how important the overall patient experience is. Bedside manner and communication matter. In my opinion, the front desk is the first gate to your organization. The person sitting at that desk may not be providing therapy, but they are often the first person a patient interacts with. If someone walks into a mental health facility and immediately feels that they’re being rushed, talked down to, ignored, or treated rudely, how comfortable are they going to feel coming back for therapy? Someone may already have had to build up a tremendous amount of courage just to seek help in the first place.

That’s something I especially want parents to think about. If you’re considering bringing your child or teenager to Caring Community Counseling—or really any mental health facility—do your research first. Talk to the facility. Ask questions about the therapist your child will see, how appointments are handled, how cancellations and scheduling changes are communicated, and who you’re supposed to contact if there’s a problem. Don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself or your child.

At the same time, I want to acknowledge that Caring Community Counseling may have improved over the years. Their current website describes a patient-centered approach and offers individual, family, and group therapy along with psychiatric and other behavioral health services. There are also positive experiences being reported. That is why I don’t believe someone should make a healthcare decision based solely on my opinion—or anybody else’s review. Research the facility and decide for yourself.

Interestingly, when I looked further into the organization, I found mixed feedback from employees as well. Some reviews praise the organization, management, training, and supportive environment, while other reviews have raised concerns involving communication, staffing, management, and administrative operations. That doesn’t automatically tell us what an individual patient’s experience will be, but it does reinforce why I believe people should look at multiple sources instead of reading one review and making a decision.

This also brings me to a bigger issue I have with online reviews. I don’t automatically trust a company just because I see a high rating online. I think consumers should read both positive and negative reviews, look at how recent they are, and pay attention to whether the same concerns keep appearing repeatedly. I have my own concerns about how platforms such as Google and Trustpilot handle business reviews, and I’ll probably do a separate discussion about that because that deserves its own conversation.

So if you’re considering Caring Community Counseling, my advice is simple: research it for yourself. Look at recent reviews, talk directly with the facility, ask questions about the provider you’ll be seeing, and pay attention to how you’re treated from the very first phone call. They may be much better today than what some people experienced years ago, and your experience may be completely different. But when it comes to mental health care, I believe patients deserve good treatment from everybody they encounter—from the front desk all the way to the therapist or doctor.
