I don’t even know where to begin with The Perfect Babysitter (2025). The film was directed by Rockey Black and stars Kamal Smith, Robin Rose, Faith Elizabeth, and Levi Jones. It’s supposed to be a thriller, but honestly, there wasn’t a single thrilling moment in the entire movie. I went into it hoping for at least a few tense or mysterious scenes, but instead, what I got felt more like a high school play that someone filmed on a weekend.

The acting in this film is the first thing that made me cringe. Every actor seemed to be forcing emotion rather than letting it come naturally. It’s like they were trying so hard to convince us that something serious was happening, but the delivery was all wrong. The lead actress, who played the babysitter, was completely miscast in my opinion. Her reactions didn’t match the tone of the story, and she came off more melodramatic than menacing or believable.

I understand that this was a low-budget movie, and I truly respect anyone trying to break into film. But if you’re a first-time creator or indie director, at least make sure the acting feels real. There’s nothing worse than sitting through an entire movie that feels like an over-exaggerated skit. The energy was off, the dialogue was flat, and even the camera work didn’t help. The scenes were choppy and lacked smooth transitions, making it hard to stay engaged.

Another problem was the pacing. For a movie that’s only an hour and 39 minutes, it somehow felt like three hours. The buildup led nowhere, and when the climax finally came, it fell completely flat. You could tell they were trying to deliver some kind of shocking twist, but it didn’t land at all. It just made me wonder if anyone had even looked at the script twice before filming.

The set design and lighting didn’t help either. Everything felt either too bright for a thriller or just poorly staged. You know how thrillers usually have that suspenseful tone—dark corners, eerie shadows, slow-burn tension? None of that existed here. It was like watching a daytime soap opera trying to be a horror flick.

To be fair, I can see that the cast and crew put in effort. I get that people are grinding to make their names on platforms like Tubi, and that’s admirable. But The Perfect Babysitter is a perfect reminder that effort alone doesn’t make a good movie. You need direction, editing, acting, and above all, storytelling that connects.

If I had to rate it, I’d honestly give it one star—only because I know how hard it is to make a film at all. Otherwise, it was a complete miss for me. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you’re intentionally looking for something to roast with friends.

Actually I kind of saw the vision of where they were trying to go. It seemed to me as if they were trying to do maybe a lifetime film and I kind of got that vibe when I saw it. But at the end of the day I just feel like it did not execute well. I wish that they would have had some better direction and maybe next time the directors will actually look more into the film before putting something out. I understand this could be a independent film and maybe a first-time film, and so for first time filmmakers. I am all here for supporting. But it was just really hard to watch but I am going to give you the best criticism I possible can and say next time if your actors are top-tier then even the worst movie and the worst production can be great. Keep going and keep trying again 👌💕

Honestly, I feel like the mother overreacted in the film. She didn’t seem to know how to carry the emotions. The husband was just nonchalant, I don’t even remember the names of a lot of these people. All I know is that everyone were not not seasoned. I understand when you’re doing a low-budget film. You don’t have season actresses you try to pay who you can, but it really did not seem like something that was taking time to really put a lot of effort into. Just because you can make a film doesn’t mean you got to let anything fly. The very first film. I understand you’re going to have some problems but we don’t even know if this is the first film. But my question is when you put out a film make sure you do it your best. There’s a lot of things that could have been done like a lot more music in the parts but also making sure that people key in and come in the right places. I don’t know, it just was kind of weird. I watched it and after watching it I kind of felt like what did I just watch 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I have to say that I thought it was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen. It just didn’t really flow well together. A lot should have been done. Even the children didn’t seem to have any personality in the film. It doesn’t cost much to try to vet people out to find out people who can actually play their parts right. The girl who was a babysitter as you mentioned in this, they overplayed the part. It just didn’t seem realistic to me and it kind of turned me off so I stopped watching before the end of the movie.
