Iโve been thinking about this for a while now, and I just want to put it out thereโis anyone really making a living on eBay anymore? Iโve been browsing through the site a lot lately, and honestly, it just feels dead. Thereโs stuff listed everywhere, thousands of items, but it doesnโt look like much of it is actually moving. You can scroll for hours and see the same listings sitting there week after week, sometimes even months. Itโs like everyoneโs listing but nobodyโs buying.
I remember when eBay used to be the place for everything. You could sell an old phone, a pair of shoes, or a random collectible and make good money. There was excitement back then. Now, when I look at it, it just feels like a ghost of what it used to be. People say eBay still has millions of users, but something about it feels outdated. The layout hasnโt really changed much, the listings look the same, and it just doesnโt have the energy it once had.
Now, Iโm not saying nobody sells on eBay anymore. I know there are still folks doing wellโpeople who resell vintage items, collectibles, or electronics. But even theyโve been saying itโs getting harder to make steady sales. You can have great photos, detailed descriptions, fast shipping, and still end up watching your listings sit there like nobody cares. The competition is crazy, and the fees donโt help either. Between the seller fees, shipping costs, and dealing with returns, sometimes it feels like the work isnโt even worth the payout.
What really got me thinking was when I started comparing eBay to other platforms. Take Mercari, for example. Itโs not perfect either, but it feels more current. Itโs easier to list, easier to scroll, and the setup just feels more โnow.โ When I use eBay, it feels like Iโve stepped back into the early 2000s. Mercari feels like social media shoppingโsimple, modern, and more personal. eBay just feels like an old shopping mall that hasnโt been renovated in years.
Still, Iโll admit one thing: eBay does have an edge when it comes to rare or collectible items. You can find things there that you wonโt see anywhere else. If youโre selling something uniqueโlike a vintage record, an old toy, or a hard-to-find gadgetโeBay might still be your best bet. But for regular stuff? Iโm not so sure. It feels like the casual buyers have moved on to other places, and eBayโs stuck catering to people who already know what they want.
Itโs also worth mentioning that some sellers say eBayโs algorithm plays a big part now. If youโre not listing every day, updating prices, and constantly being active, your items barely get seen. Back then, you could post something once and it would sell fast. Now, itโs like the site wants you to babysit your listings 24/7 just to stay visible.
I know people who used to make full-time income on eBay back in the day. Theyโd hit yard sales, thrift stores, and liquidation shops and turn everything into profit. Some of them have already quit. They say the trafficโs gone down, the buyers are pickier, and the profits just arenโt the same. Itโs not impossible to make money on eBay, but itโs definitely harder than it used to be.
I think the real question is whether eBay is keeping up with the times. Everythingโs changing so fast. People shop on TikTok now. They buy straight from Instagram ads. New apps keep coming out every year. And hereโs eBay, kind of justโฆ there. Not gone, but not really alive either. Itโs still running, still functioning, but it feels like itโs on autopilot.
So, Iโm curiousโis eBay still worth it? Are people still making a living there in 2025, or is this platform slowly dying off? Iโd love to hear from anyone whoโs still selling. Are you seeing steady sales, or has traffic just dropped off completely?
Because from where Iโm sitting, eBay feels like itโs stuck between the past and the futureโtrying to hold onto what it used to be, but not quite sure how to move forward.

I still believe thereโs money to be made on eBay, but itโs definitely not easy anymore. You have to treat it like a business research prices, stay active, relist items, and keep your store fresh. Itโs not dead yet, but itโs not thriving either. Itโs more like surviving in a crowded marketplace.
Honestly, I think eBay is hanging on by a thread. I sell mostly vintage stuff, and while it does sell eventually, itโs nowhere near what it used to be. The fees keep climbing, and the buyer base feels smaller. I moved half my items to Mercari and Poshmark, and they sell faster there.
I totally agree with you, Diana. eBay used to be my go-to for extra income, but lately itโs been painfully slow. Iโve had listings up for weeks without a single bite. It feels like only the big resellers with hundreds of items are getting noticed now. The small sellers barely stand a chance anymore.
