I bought these perm rods months ago thinking they’d make my at-home perm easier — now that I’m finally using them, I see they’re absolute garbage. The bands pop right out, they won’t stay closed, and the whole thing is useless. If I could return them, I would in a heartbeat.

I’m so frustrated right now. I ordered these perm rods back in June, thinking I was being smart by stocking up early for when I was finally ready to do my hair. Fast forward to now, I’m actually firming my hair, and it turns out these are the worst perm rods I’ve ever used in my life. I’m kicking myself for not testing them sooner because now it’s way too late to return them.
The issue? The bands. The second you start rolling your hair, the little elastic band that’s supposed to hold it in place just pops right out. Every single one. I thought maybe it was just a few defective rods, but no — it’s all of them. The band slides right out of the hole, and once it’s out, forget it. You can’t keep your curl tight, you can’t close the rod, and you’re basically sitting there trying to hold it shut with your fingers while praying it doesn’t unravel.
I’ve used plenty of perm rods over the years, and I’ve never had anything like this happen. Usually, the bands are snug and secure, but these are so cheaply made it’s almost laughable. The plastic feels flimsy, the holes are too big for the band to grip, and once it slips out, there’s no fixing it. I tried switching out the bands from one rod to another, but it didn’t matter — they all do the same thing.
By the time I got halfway through my hair, I was so irritated I just stopped recording the process altogether. There was no point. I ended up wasting time, product, and patience trying to make these useless things work. I’ve seen some bad hair tools before, but this one takes the cake.
If you’re considering buying these perm rods — don’t. Save yourself the headache. They don’t stay closed, the bands won’t hold, and you’ll end up as frustrated as I am right now. If I could return them, I absolutely would. Buyer beware — these are garbage.
