Excerpt: “Starting Nov. 1, there’s a hard stop for food-benefit issuance in Mississippi unless things change federally. If you depend on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, now’s the time to act — and fast.”

I don’t even know where to start with this one. Mississippi straight up said they stopping SNAP food assistance on November 1 because the government shutdown. Like how you just gon’ tell people who already struggling to figure it out? People depending on that money for groceries, for their kids, for everything. Now they waking up hearing “no more benefits until further notice.” That’s wild.
I seen the post from Mississippi DHS and they basically saying if the USDA don’t release no money, nobody getting nothing. So yeah, you can apply, you can renew, but it don’t matter if there’s no funding behind it. I mean, what sense that make? Folks been paying taxes all they life and can’t even count on help when they need it the most.
It’s not even like Mississippi trying to help fix it either they just shrugging and saying “it’s the feds.” Like that’s supposed to make it better. Meanwhile, people gotta figure out how to eat next month. Moms with little babies, older folks, disabled people — all of them gon’ be hurting if this keeps up.
I feel bad for everybody that’s already running low on food. If you still got some SNAP left for October, you better use it now and stock up. Canned food, rice, noodles, whatever can last because once November hit, it’s looking real dry out here. Ain’t no telling when the benefits gon’ come back.
The whole thing got me mad because the government stay playing games with regular people’s lives. They sit up in D.C. arguing over nonsense while families wondering how they gon’ eat next week. People don’t got extra money like that. Rent high, gas high, food high, and now this? Nah, this ain’t it.
And don’t get me started on how this gon’ make the food banks look. They already packed and now everybody gon’ be running there for help. The shelves probably gon’ be empty by the first week of November. I already know it. Churches and community groups gon’ be trying to step up, but even they only can do so much.
It’s just sad because we live in a country that got money for everything else — wars, rich people bailouts, all that — but when it come to feeding poor folks, they act like it’s too much. That’s crazy to me. I know people who literally only eat because of SNAP. Without it, they ain’t eating nothing but noodles and whatever’s cheap.
They need to fix this fast. Folks can’t be waiting around while politicians take their sweet time to argue. People in Mississippi don’t deserve this. The state already struggling enough. Now they tryna make it worse by cutting off food benefits? Nah. This right here just heartless.
If you live in Mississippi, please start checking on your people. Especially the ones with kids and the elderly. We gotta look out for each other ‘cause clearly the government don’t care. I’m telling you, this situation is bad, and it’s only gon’ get worse if they don’t get it together real soon.
Stay strong, Mississippi. We in this together.

It’s embarrassing how Mississippi stay at the bottom in everything. First schools, now food. Like what else they gon’ take from us?
I’m already planning to go to the church pantry this weekend just in case. I ain’t waiting till the first. These folks don’t care if we starve or not.
This whole system messed up. They don’t care about poor people. Every time something go wrong, they always cut off the food stamps like that’s the easy fix. Nah, it’s people’s lives we talking about.
I’m sitting here crying reading this because I don’t even know what I’m gonna do come next week. I already got $7 left on my card and the fridge empty. This shutdown is evil.
Exactly! They quick to fund everything overseas but can’t make sure folks here at home can eat. It don’t make no sense at all. People got kids, man.
Girl you said it all! This is ridiculous. I been on SNAP for years and never seen it get this bad. Every time the government shut down, it’s us at the bottom that gotta suffer. I’m tired of it.
