Can y’all believe Florida might finally get a leader who actually cares about real people? Jerry Demings is running for Governor, and his promise to fix Florida’s rising costs and broken system is striking a chord with everyday folks who’ve had enough of political games.

I’ve been saying this for years Florida’s leadership has been running on autopilot while everyday people are drowning under rent hikes, grocery costs, and insurance premiums that make no sense. And finally, someone’s stepping up and saying what we’ve all been thinking. Jerry Demings might just be that voice we’ve been waiting for.
Let me tell y’all something this election might finally get interesting. When I heard Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings officially launched his campaign for Governor, I couldn’t help but clap. 👏 The man didn’t just toss around fancy slogans or hollow promises he called out what we’re all living through. Families in Florida are flat-out struggling. You go to the grocery store and watch your bill hit triple digits for basic stuff like bread, milk, and cereal. You open your electric bill and start praying before you even look at the total. And don’t even get me started on rent it’s like landlords think everyone’s making six figures out here!
Demings hit the nail on the head when he said, “Florida has become more expensive and less fair for everyone.” Facts! We’re watching big corporations get breaks while the rest of us are just trying to keep the lights on. He’s right about local power too. Every time a community tries to take care of its own people whether it’s about affordable housing, zoning, or school issues Tallahassee swoops in and shuts it down like, “Nope, we know what’s best.” Do they though? Because it sure doesn’t feel like it when you’re looking at these prices.
What I respect about Demings is that he’s not trying to play this political game full of petty drama. He’s talking about real people and real issues. Rising costs. Affordable housing. Jobs that don’t just pay but sustain. He’s saying what a lot of our so-called “leaders” have been too busy arguing on TV to address. I’m tired of politicians fighting about who’s “owning” who online while regular folks are just trying to survive.
Now, I know some folks are going to roll their eyes because, yes, he’s a Democrat, and this state’s been leaning red for a while. But this isn’t about party it’s about people. We need someone who’s not scared to step into the mess and fix what’s broken. Demings has experience running a county, managing budgets, dealing with crises, and actually listening to people. You don’t get through being Orange County Mayor without having to solve real problems every day.
Look, Florida’s been on a wild ride these past few years insurance companies bailing left and right, property taxes through the roof, and wages that aren’t keeping up. You’ve got seniors afraid they’ll lose their homes and young families wondering if they’ll ever be able to own one. Meanwhile, the state’s leadership seems more focused on picking culture wars than picking up the pieces.
That’s why I think Demings could shake things up. If he keeps focusing on economic fairness, cost of living, and giving power back to local communities, he might actually pull people from both sides. Folks are tired of being pawns in political games. They want stability, not slogans. They want affordable living, not constant headlines about who’s feuding with Disney or banning something new every week.
Now don’t get me wrong I’m not saying Demings is perfect or that any politician has all the answers. But at least he’s talking about the right problems. And that’s a start. Florida doesn’t need more performative leadership; we need someone who actually hears us and plans to do something about it.
So yeah, I’m watching this campaign closely. Because maybe just maybe—Jerry Demings could be the kind of governor who stops talking at Floridians and starts working for us. And honestly, that alone would be a breath of fresh air down here in the Sunshine State.
