Genesis chapter 22 is one of the most unforgettable moments in the Bible. It shows how deep Abraham’s (AY-bruh-ham) faith really was — and how powerfully God steps in right on time.

This chapter is emotional, simple to follow, and full of encouragement for anyone who is learning to trust God.
⭐ God Gives Abraham a Hard Test
The chapter begins with God calling Abraham’s name. Abraham answers, “Here I am.”
Then God tells Abraham to do something very difficult:
Take his son Isaac (EYE-zik) to a mountain called Moriah (More-RYE-uh) and offer him as a sacrifice.
Isaac is the miracle child God promised Sarah and Abraham in their old age.
But Abraham still obeys because he trusts God, even when it doesn’t make sense.
⭐ Abraham and Isaac Travel to Moriah
Abraham wakes up early, prepares the wood, and brings Isaac and two servants.
After three days, they arrive near the mountain.
Abraham tells the servants to stay behind while he and Isaac go up to worship.
Isaac notices something important.
He sees:
- the fire
- the wood
…but no lamb for the offering.
He asks, “Father, where is the lamb?”
Abraham says one of the most powerful lines in the Bible:
“God will provide.”
⭐ God Stops Abraham and Provides a Ram
On the mountain, Abraham builds the altar and places the wood.
He gently places Isaac on the altar.
Just as Abraham lifts his hand to obey God…
A voice from heaven calls out,
“Abraham! Abraham!”
He answers, “Here I am.”
The angel says,
“Do not hurt the boy. Now I know you fear God and would not hold anything back.”
Abraham looks up and sees a ram caught in a bush by its horns — the sacrifice God provided.
He offers the ram instead of Isaac and names the place:
“The Lord Will Provide.”
⭐ God Blesses Abraham Again
Because Abraham trusted and obeyed, God gives him a powerful blessing:
- His children will become a great nation
- They will be as many as the stars
- All nations will be blessed through his family
Abraham and Isaac return home safely.
