There is something powerful that many believers still struggle to fully understand about following Jesus Christ. Christianity is not only about receiving salvation for ourselves. It is also about becoming vessels of love, forgiveness, prayer, and mercy for other people. That is the true heart of the gospel.

In John 20:21-23, Jesus told His disciples, “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” Then He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.” Right after this, He began speaking about forgiveness. That connection matters deeply. Jesus was showing that being filled with the Spirit also means learning how to forgive, pray for people, and intercede for others the same way He intercedes for us.

Many people preach the gospel from a place of judgment, fear, or condemnation. But Jesus preached truth with love. Yes, repentance matters. Yes, sin matters. But Jesus also understood that every person deserves the opportunity to encounter the grace of God. Too many people are quick to tell others they are doomed, hopeless, or beyond redemption, but that was never the spirit of Christ.

Jesus came to save people, not destroy them.

When we become followers of Christ, we are called to reflect His heart. That means loving enemies, praying for people who hurt us, forgiving those who wrong us, and believing that God can still transform someone no matter how broken they look today. Sometimes we forget that somebody once prayed for us too. Somebody showed us kindness. Somebody forgave us when we did not deserve it. And because of those prayers and acts of mercy, many of us are where we are today.

That is the beauty of intercession.

Jesus is the ultimate intercessor, but believers are also called to stand in the gap for others. When we pray for someone, we are saying, “God, I still believe You can reach them.” Even if that person is lost, angry, rebellious, or far from God, our prayers still matter. The prayers of the righteous truly carry power.

Forgiveness is also a major part of this walk with Christ. Forgiveness does not always mean the pain disappears immediately, but it means refusing to allow hatred to take root in your heart. God teaches us to forgive because unforgiveness keeps people chained spiritually and emotionally. When believers choose forgiveness, they leave room for God to work on both hearts involved.

Many people think being a Christian means appearing perfect or superior, but real discipleship is about surrender. It is about humility. It is about allowing God to use you even when life hurts, even when people misunderstand you, and even when you do not receive recognition for what you are doing.

The gospel was never about fame, popularity, or who has the biggest platform. It was always about Christ.

A lot of people want the spotlight, but they do not realize that ministry is really about position, obedience, and sacrifice. Sometimes following Jesus means dying to pride, dying to revenge, dying to selfishness, and allowing God to shape your character through difficult seasons.

The truth is that knowing Jesus changes everything. It changes the way you think, the way you forgive, the way you love, and the way you respond to people. It teaches you to see others through the eyes of grace instead of condemnation.

No one is beyond God’s reach.

Some people may look lost right now, but only God knows who they will become later. That is why believers should never stop praying, never stop loving, and never stop hoping for people. God can restore anyone willing to open their heart to Him.

At the end of the day, the message of Christ is not “get right or else.” The message is that God loves humanity enough to offer redemption, mercy, and transformation to anyone willing to receive it.

Jesus interceded for us.

Now we must learn how to intercede for others.
