Florida is supposed to be one of the biggest tourist destinations in the country, but lately, it seems like the quality of hotels has really gone downhill. I’ve especially noticed this in St. Petersburg, Florida. When it comes to regular, reasonably priced hotel rooms—whether you’re staying downtown or in some of the surrounding areas—the quality just doesn’t seem to be there anymore. This is why I just opt now for Air B&B’s.

Some of the rooms I’ve come across look like a disaster, customer service seems to have gotten worse, and even some of the restaurants don’t seem to offer the same level of quality or service they once did. It almost feels like some places have simply given up on maintaining the standards you would expect from a major tourist destination.

And it’s not just St. Petersburg. I noticed some of the same problems in Orlando. For a state that depends so heavily on tourism, I’m surprised by how difficult it can be to find a decent, clean, comfortable room at a reasonable price without running into issues.

Maybe it’s just my experience, but Florida tourism and hospitality don’t feel the same anymore. Has anybody else noticed this? Have Florida hotels, restaurants, and customer service gone downhill, or have I just been having bad luck?
