Many of us believe that if something seems good, then it must be from God. But the truth is, not every “good idea” is a God idea. Just because we want something doesn’t mean it’s right for us—or that it’s the right time. God doesn’t have a problem blessing us or giving us what we desire, but it must align with His purpose for our lives.

In Jeremiah 29:11, God says, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a future and a hope.” This reminds us that God’s plans are always for our good—even when they don’t match our own desires in the moment.

God sees the heart. He knows our true intentions, even when we may not fully recognize them ourselves. In 1 Samuel 16:7, the Lord tells Samuel, “Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” That means God knows if we’re asking from a place of selfishness or spiritual immaturity. He won’t bless us with something that will ultimately pull us away from Him or damage our purpose.

Sometimes, what we want could lead us into destruction. Out of His love, God withholds certain things—not to punish us, but to protect us. Proverbs 14:12 warns, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but in the end it leads to death.” We might believe we’re ready for a blessing, relationship, or opportunity, but God sees the full picture—past, present, and future.

The key is to examine your heart and ask yourself: Do I want this because it brings me closer to God—or because it only benefits me? When your desire for God is greater than your desire for the blessing, that’s when you’re ready.

Psalm 37:4 says, “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” When we prioritize God, our desires begin to reflect His will.

Keywords:

  • Desire – A deep longing or craving; when aimed toward God, it reflects true worship.
  • Purpose – God’s divine plan and intention for your life.
  • Heart – The center of our thoughts, intentions, and spiritual life; what God examines most.
  • Alignment – When our wants are in agreement with God’s will.

Stay in alignment with God, and trust that He knows what’s best—even when the answer is “not yet” or “no.”
