God desires for us to live holy lives, set apart for His purpose. Though He understands our imperfections, He still calls us to pursue righteousness with sincere hearts. Holiness is not about being flawless, but about being willing to grow, mature, and obey His commands because we love Him.
Scripture reminds us in 1 Peter 1:15-16 (NIV): “But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’” God’s call to holiness is not optional—it’s a divine expectation. However, He also gives us grace as we learn and grow. He does not expect instant perfection, but a heart that desires transformation.

Spiritual growth is a journey. In 1 Corinthians 13:11, Paul says, “When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me.” This reflects the natural process of growing in Christ. When we first come to the Lord, we may not fully understand His ways. We are like infants, needing spiritual milk. But as we walk with Him, we are called to mature and seek deeper understanding.
Hebrews 5:12-14 speaks directly to this:
“In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.”
We grow up in Christ by constantly pursuing Him—through prayer, studying His Word, and applying it to our lives. We stop making excuses and start striving to reflect His character. It’s not about religious performance, but genuine desire to live for God.
Let today be a reminder that spiritual growth is intentional. Ask yourself: Am I still on milk, or am I maturing with solid food? Am I truly seeking to put away childish ways and walk in the fullness of Christ?
Prayer:
Lord, help me grow in Your truth and righteousness. Teach me to put away the things of the world and live as a mature follower of Christ. Amen.
