In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth, and everything was perfect. God made no mistakes. From the moment He spoke everything into being, He knew exactly what He was doing — down to each and every one of us. We are not accidents; we are not flawed by His design. We are His wonderful, purposeful creations.
So much of our struggles come from not understanding or trusting that we are made just the way God meant us to be. We chase after an image the world says is desirable or beautiful — coloring our hair, reshaping our eyebrows, adding or removing — thinking we will feel more worthy or more complete. But deep down, what we’re really searching for is peace, happiness, and a way to appreciate ourselves just as we are. That peace can only come from turning toward God and honoring His view of us instead of the world’s view.
Sometimes we become blinded by all the distractions, worries, and pressures to conform. We think we must become someone we’re not in order to be valued or recognized. This breaks God’s heart because all He wants is for us to realize our own worth — the worth we already have just by being His children. We do not need to do anything to be recognized; we already have a place in His heart and His eternal plans.
When we take the time to listen to Him, we discover something wonderful: we already belong. We have a seat at His table, a place made just for us. All we need to do is be ourselves — the people He made us to be — and follow His path in truth. God is a God of authenticity, honoring honesty over deception or disguise. We glorify Him by honoring ourselves and the way He made us.
I want you to remember today that God chose you. He chose your skin color, your texture of hair, your shape, your style, your passions, your desires — everything that forms your unique personhood. The greatest way we can appreciate Him is by loving ourselves and trusting His ability to redeem us and lead us forward. We do not need to pretend to be someone we are not or conform to the pressures that the world sets upon us. Instead, we can rest safely in His promises, appreciate His handiwork, and become the fullest expression of His glory in us.
As you move forward today, let your heart be filled with peace and confidence in the knowledge that you are a child of God. Let’s celebrate that today, honoring Him by honoring ourselves — reflecting His creativity, His care, His redeeming grace, and His unfailing love.
