Hey family, it’s Ya Girl Renae coming at you with today’s Word of the Day. I want you to pause for a second and think about this: How much of your day is spent chasing things that don’t add any value to your life? I’m not talking about working, taking care of your home, or being with loved ones. I’m talking about those endless scrolls on social media, those late-night rabbit holes that leave you more anxious than inspired, or even people who drain you but never pour back into you.
We’ve all been there. We keep searching for something to fill a void — success, likes, new clothes, validation — but when it’s all said and done, we’re still empty. That’s because the things we’re chasing can’t satisfy the soul. Only God can.
The Bible says in Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” That’s not just a verse to memorize. That’s a lifestyle. God is telling us to quit wasting time chasing things with no eternal value. He’s saying, “Come to Me first. Give Me your attention, and I’ll handle the rest.”
Think about it — how much energy do you lose on distractions? Every minute you spend on what doesn’t matter is a minute stolen from prayer, from peace, from purpose. When you cut off what doesn’t serve you, you start to hear God’s voice clearer. You start to realize He’s been trying to get your attention all along.
Let me be real with you: the enemy loves distractions. He doesn’t have to destroy you if he can just keep you busy with nonsense. That’s why your phone keeps buzzing when you’re about to pray. That’s why random thoughts pop up when you’re reading your Bible. That’s why people suddenly want to argue when you’re trying to walk in peace. Distractions are designed to keep you from the One who has your answers.
So here’s your challenge today: stop searching for what doesn’t add value. Instead, give God your attention. Wake up in the morning and open your Bible before you open your phone. Pray about the things stressing you before you vent to social media. Spend time in worship instead of worrying about who unfollowed you or what you don’t have yet.
When you shift your focus, your life shifts with it. God begins to move in ways you couldn’t imagine. He’ll open doors you weren’t even knocking on. He’ll heal places in your heart you didn’t think could be restored. And He’ll give you joy that isn’t dependent on circumstances.
I want you to remember this: the things of this world are temporary, but your relationship with God is eternal. Don’t trade eternal joy for temporary satisfaction. Don’t let meaningless pursuits rob you of God’s presence.
Today, choose Him. Choose peace. Choose purpose. Every time you feel pulled toward something empty, remind yourself: This doesn’t add value. My God does.
Prayer for Today
Lord, help me to stop chasing distractions and start chasing You. Give me wisdom to see what adds value and what doesn’t. Teach me to keep my eyes on You and not on the things of this world. Let my heart find its rest in You alone. In Jesus’ name, amen.
