Family, I want to share something that has been sitting on my spirit for a while now. You know me – I keep it real, and I try to look at everyday life through the lens of faith. Sometimes that means I see things differently than the culture wants me to. But I believe when God shows us something, we have a responsibility to share it. That’s what I’m doing today.

I’ve noticed how casual people have gotten with the phrase “hell yes” or “hell no.” You hear it in TV shows, movies, commercials, even in the grocery store on food products. At first it seems like nothing, just a way of talking. But when you look deeper, you realize there’s real spiritual danger hiding in plain sight.

Let’s break it down. When you say “hell yes,” you are literally putting yourself in agreement with hell. Think about it – you’re attaching the word hell to your confirmation. The Bible tells us in Matthew 18:19: “Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.” Agreement has power in the spirit. That’s why we say Amen at the end of a prayer – it seals what we’ve spoken. So why would we want to seal anything with hell?

I don’t think people stop to realize this. We’ve been trained by the culture to throw these phrases around as jokes, but spiritually it’s not a joke. Words are powerful. Proverbs 18:21 says: “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” When you say “hell yes,” you’re not just agreeing – you’re speaking agreement with a place of destruction, a place of eternal separation from God.

Now let’s look at “hell no.” People usually use it as a strong rejection. But again, you are literally saying the word hell first. And sometimes, it’s in situations where someone might be asking for help or guidance. The Bible tells us to “love your neighbor as yourself” (Mark 12:31). If someone asks for help and the first word out of your mouth is hell, even in the negative, that’s not of God. That’s not the spirit of love or the spirit of service. It shows how the enemy sneaks into our everyday speech, making us curse without even realizing it.

Let me say this plain: when you curse at someone, you are speaking curses over their life. That’s why they call them curse words. If I call somebody out of their name or drop profanity toward them, I’m not blessing them, I’m putting a word curse on them. And then we wonder why people carry so much heaviness, anger, or depression. We’ve got to wake up and recognize the power of words.

I’ve noticed in commercials lately how these terms are being used more and more openly. It’s not just random. The world system is pushing us to normalize hell, normalize curses, normalize things that God has told us to avoid. Ephesians 4:29 says: “Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.” That means our words should build people up, not drag them down. But every time we laugh at these phrases, every time we repeat them, we’re agreeing with corruption instead of edification.

Even in grocery stores, I’ve seen food brands with the word hell right on the label. It makes me shake my head because I know that’s not by accident. It’s part of the same agenda – to get us comfortable with speaking death instead of life. And once you become comfortable with the small things, the bigger compromises don’t seem so bad. That’s how the enemy works – subtle, sneaky, getting you to agree with him before you even notice.

Here’s the thing: God gave us the ability to agree in the spirit for a reason. When we say Amen, we’re saying “so be it” to God’s will. We’re aligning our mouth with His promises. And that alignment has real power. That’s why Jesus warned in Matthew 12:36-37: “But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.” Every word counts. Every agreement counts.

So when we casually say “hell yes” or “hell no,” we’re making idle agreements with darkness. And family, that’s not where I want to be standing when I know God has called me into light.

I’m sharing this because I had to check myself first. I used to say some of these phrases too without even thinking. But the more I prayed and asked God to open my eyes, the more I realized I was letting my own words become traps. Once God showed me, I couldn’t keep quiet about it.

This is a call to all of us to be mindful. Stay prayed up. Ask God to show you His way. Don’t just go along with the culture because it’s catchy or funny. Romans 12:2 reminds us: “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

We don’t have to speak the way the world speaks. We can choose life. We can choose to speak blessing, not cursing. We can choose to say Amen instead of hell yes. We can choose to reject evil without putting hell at the front of our sentence.

And let me also encourage you: if you’ve already been using these phrases, don’t feel condemned. Feel convicted to do better. Repent and ask God to cleanse your tongue. James 3:10 says: “Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.” That verse hits me every time, because it reminds me how easily we can slip. But thank God for His mercy that gives us another chance to align our words with His Word.

So the next time someone tries to get you to say “hell yes,” pause and think. Ask yourself – do I really want to agree with hell? Or do I want to agree with God’s promises? The choice is ours every time we open our mouths.

Family, let’s commit today to use our words for good. Let’s be intentional about speaking life over ourselves, our loved ones, and even strangers. Because you never know – your words might be the very thing that lifts somebody out of despair and into hope.

I’ll leave you with this scripture from Psalm 19:14: “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.”

Let’s keep our words acceptable. Let’s reject phrases that tie us to hell and instead walk in the truth that God has given us. Stay prayed up, stay watchful, and keep talking to God. He will show you His way.
