Reflection
When we look at the book of Leviticus, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by the number of sacrifices required. There were burnt offerings, grain offerings, peace offerings, and sin offerings—each with a specific purpose. Every time someone sinned, they had to bring an animal or an offering to the priest, who would then perform a ritual for atonement.
This was God’s way of showing His people how serious sin is. But it also revealed something deeper: no matter how many sacrifices were made, sin still remained. The system was temporary, pointing to something greater.
That “something greater” is Jesus Christ. When He died on the cross, He became the ultimate and final sacrifice. No longer do we need to bring animals to the altar. No longer do we need priests to stand between us and God. Christ’s sacrifice was once and for all—covering every sin, past, present, and future.
A Story to Consider
A man once shared how he used to feel crushed by guilt every time he failed. He would try to “make it up” to God by doing extra good deeds—volunteering, fasting, or giving money—thinking it would balance out his mistakes. But he admitted that no matter how much he did, he still felt unworthy.
One day, while reading Hebrews, he realized he was living as if Christ’s sacrifice wasn’t enough. It was like he was still trying to drag lambs and goats to the altar. That day, he made a choice to believe that when Jesus said, “It is finished” (John 19:30), it really was finished. His freedom came when he accepted that forgiveness isn’t earned—it’s already paid for by the blood of Jesus.
Application
Today, you don’t need to live under the weight of guilt. Jesus already carried that burden for you. If you fall short, don’t run away from God—run to Him. Repent, receive His forgiveness, and walk in freedom. The cross has already settled the debt.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for sending Jesus, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. Forgive me for the times I try to earn Your forgiveness instead of receiving it. Help me to live in the freedom of Your grace, remembering that Christ’s sacrifice was once and for all. Teach me to walk in confidence, not in guilt, and to share this truth with others who are burdened. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
