Excerpt:
There’s been another senseless act of violence — this time at Lincoln University. One person dead, several others hurt. I’m sick to my stomach. This isn’t normal anymore, it’s madness. Guns are everywhere, laws are too loose, and people have lost all control.

When I first heard about the shooting at Lincoln University, I honestly froze. One person dead. A few others injured. And it’s like we’ve all just come to accept that this is normal now — another shooting, another name, another school added to a growing list that should have never existed. This is heartbreaking. We’re watching the same cycle repeat itself: shots fired, sirens blaring, families shattered, and politicians giving the same tired speeches about “thoughts and prayers.”

The truth is, America has a gun problem — and pretending otherwise doesn’t make it disappear. Guns are everywhere. People are carrying them who don’t even have the mental stability to handle a disagreement, let alone a weapon. And while the government sits frozen in yet another shutdown, we’ve got communities living in fear. Kids are afraid to go to class. Parents are afraid to send their children out the door. How did we get to a place where bullets have more freedom than people do?

We’re being told every day that owning a gun is a “right.” But what about the right to live? What about the right to walk across a campus without worrying about being shot? I’m not saying no one should ever own a gun — but the fact that nearly anyone can get one, and with such little accountability, is disturbing. This isn’t about politics; this is about human life.

It feels like our voices don’t even matter anymore. Regular people like us are tired of watching tragedy after tragedy play out while lawmakers argue about nonsense and collect paychecks during shutdowns. We can’t even get a clear policy that prioritizes safety. Instead, we get excuses. We get people saying, “It’s not the gun, it’s the person.” Okay — but why are we making it so easy for unstable people to get guns in the first place?

Every single time a shooting like this happens, the same pattern unfolds. Grief. Outrage. Silence. Repeat. And now, with the government shutdown, it’s like there’s no one even steering the wheel. The people in charge seem more concerned about political points than protecting lives. Meanwhile, students are dying. Families are burying their children. And the rest of us are left trying to make sense of the senseless.

Lincoln University is supposed to be a place of learning, hope, and future-building. But tonight, it’s another name in the headlines. Another place where dreams were destroyed because someone decided to pull a trigger. We’ve lost sight of what’s right and wrong as a society. We’ve normalized violence so much that people scroll past these headlines like they’re just another news story. But this isn’t just a story these are real lives.

I’m angry, and I’m tired. Something has to change. I don’t know how many more tragedies it’s going to take before the people who make the laws wake up and realize this is not freedom this is chaos. Freedom doesn’t look like kids hiding under desks. It doesn’t look like campuses wrapped in police tape. It doesn’t look like parents getting calls that their child isn’t coming home.

This isn’t a left or right issue. This is a humanity issue. We need stricter laws, real mental health evaluations, and accountability for gun sales. But most of all, we need leaders who care more about people than politics. Because right now, this system is broken — and the blood keeps spilling while they argue.

Lincoln University didn’t deserve this. Nobody does. But until something changes, we’ll be right back here again, mourning another tragedy that could have been prevented.

Lincoln University is a beautiful campus with a strong legacy, and this tragedy just shakes the community to its core. I’m praying for every student, parent, and staff member affected.

Terri

I agree with you 100%. The part that hurts the most is knowing this could have been prevented. These gun laws are way too loose, and people who shouldn’t even own a firearm are walking around with one every day.

Donovan, you said everything that needed to be said. It’s like our country has become numb to violence. Every week it’s another school, another headline, and still no real action from leaders.

Carla

This broke my heart. I went to Lincoln University years ago, and to see this happening on that campus is beyond painful. We shouldn’t have to worry about gunfire where students are supposed to feel safe and focused on their future.
