Man, I finally quit eBay after years of loyalty and I’ve never felt more relieved. Can y’all believe how bad it’s gotten? The fees, the policies, the greed… I swear, some new start-up is gonna take them down soon, and I’m here for it.

Man… I finally pulled the plug on eBay this past Saturday. After being with them for years I’m talking way back from the early days when the platform was fun, easy, and actually made sense I just couldn’t take it anymore. I was one of those die-hard users who bought and sold like clockwork. Back then, there was a real sense of community. You could find cool stuff, rare collectibles, and genuine deals. It felt like the wild west of online selling in a good way. Now? It’s a corporate circus with clowns running the show. 🤡

Let me start by saying this: I don’t mind paying fees when they make sense. But eBay has turned into a straight-up money grab. The fees have gotten insane listing fees, final value fees, payment processing fees, shipping cut fees, and now even tax collection in ways that just make it feel like you’re working for them, not with them. They’re practically reaching into your pocket before you even make a sale. And the kicker? If you try to make a profit, they act like you owe them an explanation for daring to use their platform to, you know… make money.

It’s not even just about the money, though. It’s the policies that killed it for me. Every year, eBay rolls out some new “protection” measure that’s supposed to make the experience safer but all it really does is make things harder for honest sellers. Buyers can open false claims, say the item “didn’t arrive” or “wasn’t as described,” and boom eBay instantly sides with them. Sellers are left holding the bag (and the bill). It’s a total joke. The trust that used to be there between buyer and seller? Gone. Completely gone.

And don’t even get me started on the headaches of trying to reach actual customer service. Once upon a time, you could talk to a human being who knew what they were doing. Now you’re lucky if you even get a response that isn’t auto-generated. Half the time you’re just stuck in some chat loop that sends you in circles. eBay acts like they’re too big to care, and that arrogance seeps through every part of the site.

I think what really pushed me over the edge was when I realized how much better it felt doing business outside of eBay. I’ve had smoother transactions on Facebook Marketplace and even small niche apps than I’ve had on eBay in years. It’s sad because eBay had the foundation to stay great they just got greedy and out of touch. They lost sight of what made them special in the first place: the users.

Honestly, my gut tells me it’s only a matter of time before some start-up comes along and knocks eBay off its pedestal. There’s a massive gap in the market right now for a platform that actually treats buyers and sellers fairly — one that values the people who use it rather than exploiting them. All it’ll take is someone with the right idea, a clean interface, and a fair fee structure. If they build it right, people will flock to it because the dissatisfaction with eBay is real.

So yeah, after all these years, I’m out. No regrets. I cancelled my account, and I can’t even describe the relief I felt hitting that “delete” button. eBay had a good run, but greed and corporate nonsense destroyed what made it great. The little guy the collectors, resellers, hobbyists — we kept that place alive. And now, they’ve basically run us out.

I’m calling it now: eBay’s downfall is coming. It might not be next year, or even five years from now, but the decline is inevitable. When that new platform comes along that actually listens to its community, eBay will be the next MySpace a relic of what once was. And honestly? I can’t wait to watch it happen. 🖐️💥
