I just came across something about Ron DeSantis and driverās licenses possibly showing immigration status, and Iām honestly sitting here trying to process how we even got to this point. Like⦠are we really doing this right now? š¤¦š½āāļø It feels like weāre moving backwards instead of forward.
What bothers me the most is how this kind of thing can open the door to people being judged, treated differently, or even targeted just based on whatās printed on a card. Thatās not right. A driverās license is supposed to be about driving, identity, and basic verificationānot a label that puts a spotlight on someoneās personal situation.

And then I heard about people being told they have to take certain tests only in English⦠no options, no support. That just doesnāt sit right with me either. America has always been a mix of cultures, languages, and backgrounds. Thatās literally what makes this country what it is. š
I get that immigration is a serious topic, and there are laws and policies involved. But at the same time, we canāt ignore the human side of it. People are just trying to live, work, and take care of their families. Why make it harder? Why add more pressure and fear?
Itās starting to feel like instead of creating fair opportunities, weāre putting up more walls. And not just physical onesāemotional and social ones too. I donāt know⦠maybe Iām overthinking it, but it really feels like weāre losing sight of what this country is supposed to stand for. Opportunity. Fairness. Respect.
Right now, it just feels off. š

I hear you 100%. This is one of those situations where it feels like regular people are the ones caught in the middle while bigger decisions are being made over their heads.
At the same time though, I think some folks see it differently. Some people feel like immigration policies should be stricter and more transparent, and they think things like ID rules are part of that. Not saying I agree with everything, but Iāve heard people say itās about āknowing whoās whoā and enforcing the law.
But where I struggle is exactly what you saidāthe human side. Because when you start putting labels on people or making things harder for them just to function day-to-day, it stops feeling like policy and starts feeling personal. And thatās where things can go left real quick.
Also, limiting language access? Thatās just making life harder for no real reason. Not everyone starts from the same place, and acting like they do isnāt fair.
I think the real issue is balance. We can have laws AND still treat people with dignity.
Right now, it feels like that balance is off⦠and people are noticing. š
