This right here is exactly what I’ve been talking about when it comes to NewsBreak………
They’re not telling you who the person is anymore. Instead, they’re making you read through the article, hoping you’ll scroll through the whole thing just to find out that they’re still not going to give you the name. Then you’re forced to leave their website and do your own search just to figure out who they’re talking about.
To me, this is a new scheme that I see they’re doing on social media, and it’s getting ridiculous.
The headline says, “Beloved TV Star Dies of Brain Tumor at Age 39.” Instead of simply putting the person’s name in the headline, they use a vague title to get people to click. After complaints, they added the name. That’s clickbait. They’re counting on people being curious enough to open the article, spend time on the page, and keep scrolling. That’s exactly how these platforms increase engagement, and I don’t think it’s right.
NewsBreak should be ashamed of itself because, at the end of the day, they’re doing a lot of dirty business over there, and half of the stuff that they share is not real news.
I’ve noticed that NewsBreak has gotten so bad that they’re now using YouTube videos to create news articles. Instead of doing original reporting, they’ll take information from creators who already did the work and turn it into an article. It feels like they’re more interested in getting clicks than actually delivering quality journalism.
People shouldn’t have to play detective just to find out who a news story is about. If you’re going to report the news, then report the news. Put the person’s name in the headline. Give people the facts. Stop trying to trick readers into scrolling through an entire article just so your numbers look better.
What’s even worse is that this type of reporting is becoming more common online. More websites are relying on curiosity instead of transparency. They know people will click because they want answers, but instead of giving those answers upfront, they bury them deeper in the article or leave out important information altogether.
I think this whole NewsBreak thing should be shut down, or they need regulations. If a company is going to present itself as a news source, then it should be held to higher standards. People deserve accurate reporting, honest headlines, and information that isn’t designed simply to generate more clicks.
That’s just how I see it. News is supposed to inform people, not manipulate them into spending more time on a webpage. If readers are noticing these tactics more and more, maybe it’s time these platforms start putting honesty ahead of clicks.
