As more information continues to come out in the Nolan Wells case, one thing is becoming very clear: his family is not giving up. They are now seeking justice not only for Nolan’s death, but they are also calling for charges related to the alleged tampering with evidence. Many people across social media have been saying for days that if anyone intentionally destroyed, deleted, or hid evidence, they should be held accountable. Now that conversation has become even louder. Let’s be honest. This is exactly what many people expected.
From the beginning, this case has left people with more questions than answers. Nolan Wells, an 18-year-old student-athlete from Mississippi, disappeared during a Fourth of July trip to Horn Island with friends. His body was later recovered, but investigators have not yet announced an official cause of death. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says the investigation is still active, while Nolan’s family has hired attorney Ben Crump and ordered an independent autopsy because they believe important questions remain unanswered.
Authorities continue to ask anyone with photos, videos, or firsthand information from that day to come forward. None of the major investigative agencies have announced homicide charges, and the official findings are still pending. That is why this situation has so many people talking.
If someone knowingly destroys evidence, deletes messages, throws away clothing, hides a phone, or does anything else that could interfere with an investigation, that doesn’t help anyone. Whether those actions were done out of fear, panic, or for another reason, every family deserves the opportunity for investigators to examine every piece of evidence available. That is why so many people believe accountability matters.
What we should not do is convict people in the court of public opinion before investigators finish their work. We can demand a thorough investigation while also respecting due process. Those two things can exist together. One thing this case has done is remind many people of something much bigger than Nolan Wells.
It has brought attention to the way families often struggle to trust the justice system when they feel answers are taking too long. Many Black families and other minority communities have shared similar concerns for years, believing that some cases do not receive the urgency, transparency, or attention they deserve. Whether someone agrees or disagrees, those feelings are real for many people, and they deserve to be heard respectfully.
But I also want to say something even more important. Our fight should never simply be about choosing sides because of race, politics, or popularity. Our fight should always be about choosing what is right. I’m not telling anybody to pick a political party. I’m not telling anybody to choose one race over another. I’m telling people to stand on the side of righteousness.
That side belongs to Jesus Christ.
The Bible tells us in Micah 6:8 (NIV): “He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
That’s what this case should remind all of us to do.
Justice.
Mercy.
Humility.
The Bible also says in Proverbs 12:22 (NIV): “The Lord detests lying lips, but he delights in people who are trustworthy.”
Truth matters.
Honesty matters.
Integrity matters.
If someone has done wrong, they should take responsibility. It doesn’t matter whether they are Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, rich, poor, Republican, Democrat, or Independent. Wrong is wrong. God doesn’t grade sin by skin color. God doesn’t excuse dishonesty because someone is popular. God looks at the heart.
Romans 12:17 reminds us, “Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone.” That means every one of us has a responsibility to tell the truth, cooperate with lawful investigations, and let justice take its course.
I continue to pray for Nolan Wells’ parents because no mother or father should have to bury their child while still wondering exactly what happened. I also pray that if anyone knows the truth, they will find the courage to come forward. Sometimes one honest person can change the entire direction of an investigation.
The truth has a way of coming to light. As Luke 8:17 says, “For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.” No matter how long it takes, I believe the truth matters. Justice matters. And above all else, God sees everything.
