It’s so important for us as believers to move beyond simply listening to God’s Word — we need to become doers of His Word. James 1:22–25 (ESV) makes this clear: “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror; for he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.”

This Scripture shows us a powerful picture. We shouldn’t just listen to Scripture and then walk away and forget it. We must let God’s Word transform us — we need to put it into action. This is a way we demonstrate our loyalty, our faith, and our transformation in Him.

“Remember this: It’s perfectly fine to tell friends, family, and anyone else ‘no’ when it comes to disobeying God’s Word. We need to make it clear that we serve the one true God — not a false one — and that honoring Him comes before pleasing anyone else.”

Sometimes we get so caught up in ourselves — in our routines, routines, routines — that we lose sight of what really matters. We start thinking more about our own desires, worries, or ambitions instead of honoring God with our choices. We make everything about us instead of about Him. But Scripture is clear: we should “He must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30, ESV). Our lives should reflect Him and bring Him glory.

This kind of transformation doesn’t come without discipline or renewal of the mind. Romans 12:2 (ESV) says: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” We need to constantly align ourselves with Scripture instead of following the patterns of the world. This way, we will become true believers who obey God’s Word — not just people who say we believe.

Sometimes we’re faced with temptation or deception, and we must be vigilant. We must be able to identify the schemes of the devil and avoid falling into his traps. 1 Peter 5:8 (ESV) says: “Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” We must constantly be reminded of who we are in Christ — children of God, soldiers for His Kingdom — and we must not let temptation confuse or undermine our faith.

We shouldn’t use the fact that we’re imperfect as an excuse to sin or ignore Scripture. We all fall short (Romans 3:23), but God’s grace is not a license to continue living in disobedience. Romans 6:1–2 (ESV) asks, “Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?” We must pursue holiness, honoring God in everything we do — in our relationships, in our routines, in the way we talk, in the way we treat other people — for the Bible says, “Be holy, for I am holy” (1 Peter 1:16, ESV).

When we do this — when we become doers of the Word — we become a reflection of His faithfulness. We become a testimony to the world that God is alive and at work in us. People will see something different about us. They will see a peace, a patience, a kindness, a discipline, and a humility that can’t be explained by human ability. They will know we belong to Him, not just by what we say, but by how we live (John 13:35).

This is a powerful opportunity for us to make a huge impact in the world. We can show people the love of God, not by preaching without action, but by letting Scripture transform us from the inside out. We can be a reflection of His character — a light in the darkness — if we follow His Word.

In the end, it’s not about us. It’s about Him. We must bring Him glory in everything we do. So today, let’s make a choice: we’re not going to be hearers only; we’re going to be doers of the Word. We’re going to let Scripture shape us, guide us, and transform us into the people God already says we are in Him — children of the Light (Ephesians 5:8).
