One of the hardest things for us to do in life is forgiveโespecially ourselves. We often read the Bible and focus on forgiving others, but many times, the battle is inward.
When we look at the story of Judas in Matthew 27, we see how guilt consumed him. Judas betrayed Jesus for thirty pieces of silver, and when he realized the weight of what he had done, his shame was unbearable. He returned the silver, but instead of seeking Godโs forgiveness, Judas turned against himself. The Word tells us that he went out and hanged himself (Matthew 27:5).
Hereโs the truth: Judas could not forgive himself. But that doesnโt mean Jesus had not forgiven him. Jesusโ love and sacrifice on the cross covered even Judasโ betrayal. Yet, Judas couldnโt see past his guilt to embrace that mercy.
How often do we fall into the same trap? We beat ourselves up over past mistakes, holding on to guilt, shame, and regret so tightly that we blind ourselves from seeing Godโs love. We tell ourselves we arenโt worthy, when in reality, Christ already proved our worth on Calvary.
The lesson in Judasโ story is this:
Sometimes, our greatest enemy is not the sin itself, but our inability to forgive ourselves. We end up being our own downfall, our own demise. When we donโt release guilt, we lock ourselves in chains that Christ has already broken.
But hereโs the good news:
- Jesus is the ultimate lover and giver of life.
- He expects us to be human, but also to lean on His strength to grow closer to Him.
- We are loved regardlessโno matter what weโve done.
Never believe that God isnโt listening to you simply because you donโt hear Him in the way you expect. His voice isnโt always loud in the flesh, but it is always steady in the spirit.
So today, let this devotional be a reminder: stop beating yourself up. Forgive yourself as Christ has already forgiven you. Donโt allow guilt to write your story when Jesus has already written it in grace.
Prayer of the Day:
Lord, thank You for forgiving me even when I struggle to forgive myself. Help me to release my past, my guilt, and my shame. Remind me daily that I am loved beyond measure and that nothing Iโve done can separate me from Your love. In Jesusโ name, Amen.
You Would Have Never Left If You Were Comfortable!
Yes, He allowed us to look. Yes, He allowed things to move forward to a certain point. Yes, He even put it in my spirit to go see certain people and work with certain individuals at the start. But somewhere along the road, things changed. The same people who seemed to be part of theโฆ
