I was sitting around the other day just reflecting, and something heavy came to me. Do gossip bloggers really know what they’re doing to their lives? I mean really think about it. God has been clear about gossip – it is a sin, plain and simple. Proverbs 16:28 says, “A perverse person stirs up conflict, and a gossip separates close friends.” When we spread rumors, lies, or even dig into people’s past just to expose them, we’re not building up anyone. We’re tearing them down, and in the process, we’re tearing ourselves down too.
I used to be into it myself. I can’t even sit here and pretend otherwise. I used to tune in, read the blogs, watch the videos, laugh along, and even share the stories with others. But one day it hit me: every time I spoke badly about someone else, every time I judged their life, it was coming back on me. Galatians 6:7 tells us, “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” And I started reaping a lot of negativity because that’s exactly what I was sowing with my mouth.
The crazy part is that so many famous bloggers today don’t even realize the curse they’re speaking over themselves. They smile in front of the camera, they get their clicks, their views, their sponsorship deals, but spiritually, they’re bankrupt. They’re storing up wrath, not blessings. They’re doing the devil’s work and thinking it’s just “content.”
The devil is crafty like that. He’ll make you believe that if it’s paying your bills, if it’s making you popular, then it must be all right. But Jesus said in Matthew 16:26, “What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul?” Every dollar earned by destroying someone else’s character is blood money. It may keep the lights on, but it dims the light of Christ inside of you.
And here’s the saddest part – gossip isn’t just about what someone did yesterday. God has told us not to judge people based on their past because He is always in the business of transformation. 2 Corinthians 5:17 reminds us, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” When bloggers keep dragging up people’s old mistakes, they’re fighting against God’s work of renewal. That’s dangerous territory.
I’ve seen firsthand that when you put out negativity, you invite negativity right back into your life. Doors close. Relationships fall apart. Opportunities slip away. And you can’t even connect the dots until you realize your mouth is your biggest enemy. That platform you think is elevating you is actually cursing you. James 3:10 says, “Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.”
People will argue, “But gossip is just entertainment.” Let’s be real—entertainment at the expense of someone’s pain is not entertainment, it’s exploitation. Would you want the worst mistakes of your life turned into headlines, memes, and clickbait? Would you want people laughing about your struggles just so someone else can get paid?
We live in a time where people care more about money than God, and it shows. You can tell me you have standards, that you “know everything,” but if your daily bread comes from tearing down others, you’re not standing with God. You’re working for the enemy, and the paycheck comes with eternal consequences.
I’m not here to bash anyone. I’m sharing because I’ve lived it. I know how tempting it is to sit in judgment of others, to laugh at their downfall, to feel powerful holding their secrets. But I also know the freedom that comes with letting that go. The peace of mind that comes with choosing not to feed into gossip. And the blessing of choosing to speak life instead of death.
So to every blogger, influencer, or even just regular person scrolling and sharing drama – think twice. Proverbs 18:21 says, “The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.” What fruit do you want to eat? Sweet or bitter? Blessings or curses?
