Two detainees inside were killed on the spot, and another one is hanging on in critical condition at the hospital. The shooter then turned the gun on himself. No ICE agents were hit, which is crazy considering the shooter was just firing into the building and even sprayed shots at a van in the sallyport where the victims were.

The part that’s really tripping me out is the detail about the bullet they found. Homeland Security said the bullet actually had “ANTI-ICE” written on it in marker. Like, that’s not just random violence — that’s someone with a grudge, someone with a message they wanted to send, even if it was in the most twisted, messed up way possible. And it’s not just me saying that; the FBI straight up called it “an act of targeted violence.” When law enforcement is using that kind of language, you know they’re not brushing this off as just some random crime of the week.

But here’s what I can’t wrap my head around. This attack didn’t go after ICE agents or staff directly — the people who got killed were detainees. Folks who were already locked up, already in a vulnerable position, already caught in the middle of the whole immigration system. That’s what makes it even more tragic. If the shooter was trying to make some “anti-ICE” statement, why take out the very people who are stuck under ICE custody? It’s like punishing the wrong people entirely. And the timing makes it all feel heavier too. This comes just two weeks after Charlie Kirk, the conservative leader, was killed in a similar kind of shooting — someone on a rooftop with a rifle taking him out. You don’t even have to like Charlie Kirk or agree with his politics to see a scary pattern forming here. Public shootings, politically charged, people feeling bold enough to climb up on rooftops and just start sniping at whoever they see as the “enemy.” That’s a dangerous road we’re heading down, because once one person does it, you know there are others watching, thinking they can make their point the same way.

What also gets me is how quickly people are gonna try to spin this story to fit their own side. You can already see it coming. One group is gonna say this proves anti-ICE activists are dangerous extremists. Another group is gonna say this is what happens when ICE facilities even exist in the first place. And somewhere in the middle, you’ve got families mourning two dead detainees, one more fighting for his life, and people who were just in the wrong place at the wrong time. The human cost gets lost when everyone rushes to push their own narrative.

I’ll be real with y’all — I’m tired of hearing about shootings like this. Schools, churches, grocery stores, now ICE facilities. It’s like there’s nowhere left that doesn’t feel like a potential target. And the worst part is, we’ve almost normalized it. Maybe because of the detail with the bullet, maybe because it’s detainees who paid the ultimate price, or maybe just because the pattern is becoming too obvious. Either way, Dallas is now another city added to the list of places marked by senseless gunfire. And that list is getting too damn long.
