I can’t even believe what I’m reading right now. Twenty-four and a half million dollars? Paid out to Donald Trump because YouTube suspended his account after the January 6th attack? I’m sorry, but this is outrageous. We all watched what happened that day. People stormed the Capitol, windows smashed, chaos everywhere—and now the man who fueled so much of that unrest is walking away with a settlement check like he’s the victim? No. Absolutely not.
I am so frustrated because this is bigger than politics. It’s about accountability. Social media companies—YouTube, Twitter, Facebook—said then that his words were dangerous. They didn’t just suspend him for fun. They suspended him because there was a real risk of more violence. But now, years later, they’re folding and paying him off like his feelings got hurt. Where is the justice in that?
Let’s be honest here: if any regular person went on a platform and encouraged behavior that led to violence, they wouldn’t just get suspended—they’d be banned for life and maybe even facing charges. Yet Trump gets a payday. That right there tells me we are living in a world where the rules bend for people with money, power, and influence. And I’m tired of it. I am sick and tired of seeing the system protect the very people who caused harm in the first place.
And don’t try to tell me this is about “free speech.” Free speech doesn’t mean you get a megaphone to push chaos with no consequences. Free speech doesn’t mean you can incite, then cry censorship when the platform shuts you down. If anything, this settlement proves how broken things are. It’s not about principle—it’s about money. They want the lawsuit out of the way, so they hand him millions, and we’re supposed to sit here like it’s normal? No. I refuse to accept that.
What about all the families who lost loved ones that day? What about the police officers who had to fight through that mob? Do they get settlements for the trauma, the injuries, the lives lost? Or is all the payout money only reserved for the man who lit the match and then stepped back like he was innocent? Because let’s call it what it is—Trump benefited from stirring that pot, and he’s still benefiting now.
This whole thing makes me feel like our voices don’t matter. Like the people who actually suffered because of that day are ignored, while the one who caused it all gets compensated. I don’t care what side of the aisle anyone is on, this is insulting. To every American who believes in fairness, in accountability, in justice—this is a slap in the face.
So yeah, I’m angry. I’m angry because once again the rich and powerful walk away winners, and the rest of us are left shaking our heads. And I’m angry because companies that claimed to take a stand in the name of safety are now proving it was just talk. They said they suspended him to prevent more violence. So why backtrack now? Why pay him? Either stand on principle or admit it was never about principle in the first place.
At the end of the day, this settlement shows me one thing loud and clear: money talks louder than truth. And if that doesn’t wake people up to how twisted this whole situation is, I don’t know what will.
