You ever realize how when Amazon Web Services crashes, the whole internet just collapses right behind it? That’s exactly what happened today. I was just scrolling Reddit, and boom — nothing loads. I thought it was my Wi-Fi acting up, but nope, turns out it’s AWS again. It’s wild how one company’s system goes down and suddenly everything from Snapchat to Venmo, Ring, and even Pokémon GO starts falling apart. Like, how are we this dependent on one platform to keep the digital world running?

The crazy part is Amazon said they fixed it, but that’s clearly not the case. A “fix” doesn’t mean much when Reddit’s still half-broken, and apps are stuttering left and right. Downdetector blew up with tens of thousands of outage reports, and I get it — people are frustrated. Businesses, gamers, streamers, everyone’s just sitting here waiting for the lights to come back on. You know it’s bad when you can’t even check your Ring camera or send a payment on Venmo because the backbone of the internet’s having a meltdown.

And it’s not like this is new either. AWS goes down every few months, and every single time they say they’re applying “mitigations” or that it’s a “regional issue.” Translation: chaos in the data center again. But what’s worse is the ripple effect. These aren’t small apps — these are billion-dollar companies losing millions by the minute because Amazon’s cloud can’t stay stable. It’s scary to think about how fragile all this really is. One bad update or server crash and suddenly half the internet’s on fire.

What makes me laugh — in that “I can’t believe this” kind of way — is how none of these companies seem prepared. Like, where are the backups? Where’s the failover plan? You mean to tell me not one of these tech giants thought to have a Plan B in case Amazon sneezed? Come on. It’s 2025. We rely on this stuff for everything from shopping to security cameras. It’s not just annoying — it’s a huge risk.

I’m telling you, if this doesn’t wake people up to how much power Amazon has over the internet, I don’t know what will. It’s not just a tech issue — it’s a control issue. When one company holds that much of the internet’s backbone, that’s not just business. That’s monopoly-level dangerous.

So yeah, they say it’s “recovering,” but let’s be real — the internet’s still limping, and a lot of us are just stuck waiting for Amazon to pull it together again.

Same here! I was checking my Ring camera and it just kept saying “cannot connect.” That’s not just inconvenient — that’s a safety issue. Amazon needs backups in every region, not just one.

I couldn’t even get into Reddit to see what was happening! It’s like every app that could’ve told me the truth was also down because of AWS. Total blackout.

Bro I was in the middle of sending rent money through Venmo and the app froze. I legit thought my account got hacked 😭. These outages always hit at the worst time.

Tina

Exactly! It’s scary how much control one company has. If AWS breaks, the whole online world falls apart. Makes me wonder if we’re just too dependent on big tech at this point.

Tamara

Man, I thought my phone was acting up! I reset my Wi-Fi three times before realizing half the internet was down. Amazon really needs to get it together — this keeps happening every year.
