Excerpt: Today, the safety net that once fed Georgia’s most vulnerable is unraveling. With Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, once known as “food stamps”) facing termination of benefit issuance in Georgia come November 1 due to the federal shutdown, hundreds of thousands of families now stare at empty pantries. This isn’t budget gymnastics — it’s life or hunger.

I can’t even believe I’m saying this, but Georgia really did it. Food stamps are done as of today. That’s it. No warning that makes sense, no plan, nothing. People depending on those benefits just woke up to find out they’re cut off. What are they supposed to do? You can’t just tell a single mom with three kids or an elderly person living off Social Security to “figure it out.”
This whole thing makes me sick. Georgia has over a million people on SNAP, and most of them already struggle just to make it through the month. The government shuts down, and somehow the people who have the least end up paying the price. I keep hearing folks say, “Oh, they’ll figure something out.” Yeah? When? After everyone’s fridge is empty? After families are skipping meals?
And don’t tell me it’s just temporary. Every time they say “temporary,” it drags on for weeks or months while people suffer. Groceries cost more than ever, and now they want folks to survive without any help? That’s not leadership — that’s neglect. Pure and simple.
You know what makes it worse? We’re going into the holidays. Thanksgiving, Christmas — the time when families should come together and eat a decent meal. Instead, Georgia families will be at food banks and shelters hoping someone can give them a can of soup or a box of pasta. This isn’t how America is supposed to look.
I’m not trying to hear excuses about “funding” or “federal responsibility.” Somebody in this state needs to take action. Georgia leaders love to get on TV and talk about values and morals, but where’s the morality in letting people go hungry? If you can’t feed the poor, you’ve got no business calling yourself a public servant.
And let’s talk about the ripple effect. Food banks are already struggling. Most of them can barely keep shelves stocked as it is. Now they’ll have lines down the street because people have no other option. It’s going to be chaos. You’ll see fights break out over basic food. It’s going to get ugly real fast.
This is not a “welfare issue.” This is survival. If you’ve ever lived paycheck to paycheck, you know what it feels like to worry about your next meal. Now multiply that by a million. That’s Georgia today. And it’s not just the unemployed either — a lot of people on SNAP work. They just don’t make enough to keep up with bills and food prices.
I don’t care what side of politics you’re on — if you can look at this and not feel disgusted, something’s wrong with you. People are about to starve because the system failed them. It’s not laziness. It’s not lack of effort. It’s the government playing games with people’s lives.
I hope this decision haunts every single person in power who allowed it to happen. Because when the stories start coming out about kids going hungry and families going without, that’s on them. This state better wake up before things get worse.
Georgia, you dropped the ball big time. You left your own people to starve. And I’m not going to shut up about it.

This is terrible many will suffer this holiday season because of foolishness in the whitehouse but he is building a ball room???? MTMS!!!!!
Everybody better buckle up cuz we’re in for a long ride. All that’s going on and it’s just really insane about how all these things are taking place. Christmas will be worse I’m sure
