Early Tuesday morning, St. Petersburg Police began investigating a tragic accident involving an E-bike in the 4900 block of 22nd Avenue North.

The crash happened shortly after 7 a.m. on December 2, 2025, in the westbound lanes near the intersection of 22nd Avenue North and 49th Street.
According to officials, officers arrived quickly after receiving the report of a collision between an E-bike and another vehicle. When they got to the scene, they found that the E-bike rider had suffered fatal injuries. At this time, authorities have not released the name of the victim, as they are still notifying family members.
Police blocked off portions of the westbound lanes for several hours while detectives and the Traffic Homicide Unit examined the area. They took pictures, measured the roadway, and spoke with witnesses to understand exactly how the crash happened. These steps are standard whenever a fatal accident occurs, and they help investigators piece together the moments leading up to the impact.
So far, police have not announced whether speed, visibility, or any other factors played a role. They also have not confirmed whether the driver involved stayed at the scene, but early reports suggest that officers were speaking with everyone connected to the collision.
Drivers in the area experienced delays this morning, as westbound traffic was diverted while investigators worked. The roadway has since reopened.
This incident is another reminder of how important it is for both drivers and cyclists—especially those using E-bikes—to stay aware of each other on the road. These bikes have become more popular in St. Petersburg over the past few years, which means safety is even more important for everyone.
As soon as the St. Petersburg Police Department provides updates, including the identity of the rider or possible causes of the crash, more information will be shared. For now, the community is left mourning a life lost and hoping for clarity as the investigation continues.
