I know I’m not the only one thinking it—something is seriously off with how things are being handled in St. Petersburg.

I’ve lived here long enough to see the difference. This city has potential, beautiful areas, growing communities, and people who actually care. But the way some of these city departments are operating? It feels like nobody’s really accountable anymore. You call about something simple—trash pickup missed, potholes getting worse, basic maintenance—and it’s like you’re talking into the void. You get transferred, put on hold, or told “someone will follow up,” and then nothing happens.

And it’s not just one situation. It’s a pattern.

I’ve personally dealt with issues that should’ve taken a couple of days to fix, dragging on for weeks. You’ll see workers come out, look at the problem, stand around for a bit, then leave with nothing done. Meanwhile, residents are paying taxes, expecting basic services, and getting the bare minimum in return. It’s frustrating, especially when you know this city has the resources to do better.

What really gets me is the lack of urgency. It’s like there’s no pride in the work anymore. You drive around and see areas that clearly need attention—overgrown spaces, broken infrastructure, things that make the city look neglected. And it’s not even hidden. It’s right there in plain sight.

I’m not saying every single worker is lazy, because that wouldn’t be fair. There are definitely some people out there doing their job and doing it well. But the overall system? It feels slow, disorganized, and honestly, too comfortable with mediocrity. When there’s no pressure to improve, no real consequences, this is what happens.

And that’s where management comes in.

At some point, you have to look at leadership. If things aren’t getting done, if residents keep having the same complaints over and over, then something higher up isn’t working. New management might not fix everything overnight, but at least it could bring fresh energy, better organization, and maybe some accountability that’s clearly missing right now.

People here love this city. That’s why it’s so frustrating. We’re not complaining just to complain—we’re speaking up because we know St. Petersburg can be way better than this. We deserve services that actually function, communication that’s clear, and a system that respects the people who live here.

Right now, it just feels like too many things are slipping through the cracks, and nobody’s in a rush to fix them.

At the end of the day, it’s simple: do the job, take pride in it, and if the current setup can’t deliver that, then yeah—maybe it’s time for some changes at the top.
