Like… I’m two months deep into anime breakdowns and music production content. I’m talking late nights, rabbit holes, studying transitions, learning sound design, all that. I’m locked in. So explain to me WHY I’m watching a video about anime storytelling or mixing vocals and the next recommended video is… DIY furniture??? Or somebody sewing curtains??? 😐
What are we doing here??
It really feels like the algorithm just be guessing sometimes. Like it sees “creative” and just throws EVERYTHING creative at you. Nah bruh, that’s not how this works. If I’m clearly binge watching anime analysis and beat making, why am I getting “how to build a coffee table for $20” right next to it?? I didn’t search that, didn’t click that, didn’t even THINK about that. It’s like YouTube got zero common sense sometimes.
And don’t get me started on thumbnails…
Man… I’m tired of seeing these over-the-top shocked faces every single time. You know exactly what I’m talking about. Mouth wide open like 😱, eyes popping out, hands on the head like the world just ended. And the title be like “THIS CHANGED EVERYTHING!!!” or “YOU WON’T BELIEVE THIS!!”
Like… relax.
We’ve ALL seen it. It’s played out. At this point it just feel forced and kinda cringe. I used to click on those back in the day, I’m not even gonna lie. But now? Instant turn off. It don’t even feel authentic anymore. It feels like people trying way too hard to game the system instead of just making good content.
And what’s crazy is… I’m starting to notice the opposite working MORE.
Simple thumbnails.
Just the person. Maybe a clean frame from the video. No crazy text. No arrows. No red circles. No fake shock face. Just a normal expression and a solid title that actually tells you what the video is about.
And guess what? Those videos be getting views.
Like real views. Not just clickbait numbers either… people actually watching.
It makes me feel like all that extra stuff people been doing for years is starting to fall off. People getting tired of being “tricked” into clicking something. Now it’s like… if your content solid, you don’t need to do all that.
And honestly, I respect that way more.
Because at the end of the day, I clicked on your video for VALUE. Not for acting. Not for fake reactions. Just give me what I came for.
But yeah, back to the algorithm… it really be messing up the whole experience sometimes.
I’ll be in a whole vibe, learning something specific, locked into a niche… and then boom—random content that has NOTHING to do with what I’m on. It breaks the flow. Makes the platform feel less curated and more like a gamble.
Like YouTube, you have ALL this data on me. You know what I watch, how long I watch it, what I skip, what I replay… and you still throwing random stuff at me like you guessing on a test.
Make it make sense.
I get that trends play a part in all this too. Everybody trying to follow what works. That’s why you see the same thumbnail styles, same titles, same energy across the board. But now it feels like we hitting that point where people tired of the copy-paste formula.
Originality starting to stand out again.
And honestly? That’s a good thing.
Because I’d rather click on something that feels real than something that’s screaming at me to click it.
Anyway… rant over.
But yeah, if YouTube could just tighten up that recommendation system and people chill on the fake hype thumbnails… the whole experience would be WAY better.

The whole system sucks now. I can’t even get anything in my feed that I like to see unless I search for it and watch about a half dozen of those kinds of videos to get any sort of similar content to show up. But then out of nowhere, it stops recommending that content and YT goes completely off the rails recommending a bunch of other stuff I have no interest in.
I felt this whole post for real. You not tripping at all. I been going through the same thing and it’s honestly frustrating. You spend time really getting into a certain lane, watching the same type of content, trying to actually learn something, and YouTube just throws random stuff in your face like it don’t even know you. It really does kill the whole vibe when you locked in and then boom, something completely off pops up.
And yeah, the thumbnail thing is getting out of hand. I’m tired of seeing them fake shocked faces too. It don’t even feel genuine no more. It’s like everybody just copying what they think works instead of just being real. Half the time I don’t even click those videos anymore because it already feels like I’m about to get baited.
I agree with you about the simple thumbnails though. Lately those been hitting way harder. Just a clean image, no extra stuff, and a straight to the point title. It feels more honest, and I think people starting to appreciate that more now.
At the end of the day, good content should speak for itself. Not all that extra hype.
