I have to be honest, I’m a little torn on this new DoorDash feature where customers are being asked whether they want the same driver to deliver to them again. I understand why some people like the idea. If you had an amazing driver who was fast, friendly, and followed your delivery instructions, of course you’d probably want them again. On the flip side, if someone did a terrible job, I understand not wanting that experience a second time. But here’s where I think this becomes a problem.

Not everyone judges people fairly. There are people in this world who will make decisions based on race, gender, age, appearance, or simply because they don’t like someone for no real reason at all. That has nothing to do with whether the driver delivered the food correctly. If customers can choose not to have certain drivers return, what’s stopping someone from using that feature for the wrong reasons?
That’s what worries me.
DoorDash drivers already depend on getting enough orders to make money. If enough people decide they don’t want a particular driver coming backโeven if that driver did absolutely nothing wrongโit could reduce the number of deliveries they receive. That means less income, and that’s a big deal for people who rely on DoorDash to pay their bills.
Now, I do understand the other side of the argument. Some people believe this feature rewards drivers who consistently provide excellent service. If customers keep requesting them, they could end up getting more repeat business and possibly earn more money over time. I can definitely see why people support that idea.
The problem is that customer preference isn’t always based on performance. Sometimes it’s based on personal bias, and that’s something no company can completely control.
Personally, I think DoorDash needs to be very careful with how this feature is used. If it’s going to affect a driver’s ability to earn money, there should be safeguards in place to make sure people aren’t being unfairly pushed aside because of someone’s personal prejudice instead of the quality of their work.
At the end of the day, people should be judged by how well they do their jobโnot by what they look like or who they are. That’s the part that concerns me the most. If DoorDash is going to keep this feature, I hope they find a way to make sure it’s rewarding good service without opening the door to unfair treatment.
