There’s something I’ve been thinking about lately that honestly doesn’t make a lot of sense to me, and maybe someone in the community can explain it. The Subway in Riegelwood, NC is easily one of the best places around here to grab a sandwich. The quality is consistently good, the staff does a solid job putting the subs together, and every time I’ve gone in there the food has been fresh. So here’s the thing that keeps bothering me: why in the world is it not on DoorDash or any of the other delivery apps?

We’re living in a time where just about everything can be delivered to your front door. Groceries, pizza, Chinese food, wings, burgers—you name it. Even a lot of small towns now have options on apps like DoorDash, Uber Eats, or Grubhub. Yet somehow one of the better sandwich spots in the area isn’t available for delivery at all. That just seems strange.

I’m not saying people shouldn’t go pick up their food. Of course they should. But sometimes you just don’t feel like getting in the car and driving somewhere. Maybe you’ve had a long day. Maybe you’re working late. Maybe the weather is bad. Maybe you’ve got kids at home and don’t want to pack everybody into the car just to grab a sub. Those are exactly the kinds of situations where delivery apps are supposed to help.

What makes it even more confusing is that Subway is a national chain. You can go to plenty of other Subway locations across the country and order through delivery apps with no problem. So it raises the question: why not here? Is it the store owner choosing not to participate? Is it something with the delivery apps themselves? Is it because Riegelwood is considered too small of an area for drivers? Whatever the reason is, it just doesn’t add up.

Honestly, I think the store could probably do even more business if it were available for delivery. There are plenty of people around here who would absolutely order a sandwich if it could just show up at their door. Instead, if someone wants delivery, they’re probably going to order from somewhere else that actually shows up on the apps. That means missed sales for the store and fewer options for the community.

Another thing to think about is how much delivery culture has changed eating habits. A lot of people scroll through their phone looking at what’s available rather than thinking about what restaurants exist nearby. If a place isn’t on those apps, it almost disappears from that digital marketplace. That’s not because the food isn’t good—it’s just because people don’t see it as an option.

And that’s the part that’s frustrating. The Riegelwood Subway actually does make good sandwiches. The bread is fresh, the toppings are usually stocked well, and the staff has always been friendly whenever I’ve gone in. So it’s not like the place lacks quality. In fact, that’s why it seems so odd that they’re missing out on something that could help them reach more customers.

I’m not trying to bash the store at all. Quite the opposite. I actually enjoy getting food there. That’s why I’d like to see them expand their options so more people can enjoy it too. Being on a delivery app doesn’t replace in-store customers, but it definitely adds another stream of business.

So I’m curious what everyone else thinks. Is there some reason the Riegelwood Subway isn’t on DoorDash or any other delivery platform? Is it a decision from the owner, or is it something related to the delivery companies themselves? Because from a customer’s point of view, it just seems like a missed opportunity.

At the end of the day, a good sandwich is a good sandwich. It would just be nice if sometimes that sandwich could come to us instead of us always having to go to it.

So true.. the smaller areas suck with Uber. This is why expansion is needed
