What I notice when I’m online searching for YouTube content is that many of the YouTube content creators that are small creators, their videos are not being shown. I remember a time when I wanted to see vlogs, and I would go on there and I would actually search up something about a vlog, but they would also show small creators who did not have a lot of following. Back then, it felt like YouTube gave everybody a chance to be seen. You could search for almost anything and discover somebody new who was creative, entertaining, and actually putting effort into their content. It felt more real, more personal, and honestly more exciting because you never knew who you were going to discover next.
Now it seems like everything is controlled by numbers, popularity, and already established creators. Even when you type in, you know, “follow me” or some type of wording to say, hey, small YouTuber support, most of the YouTube people on there, they are not showing more context to people who are already available and they leave the small creators looking like they’re nothing. It’s almost like if you don’t already have thousands or millions of subscribers, the system pushes your content so far down that nobody even gets a chance to find you.
A lot of these small creators are spending hours editing videos, recording content, trying to be creative, and staying consistent, but their videos barely get recommended. Meanwhile, the same big creators continue to dominate the front page, recommendations, and search results over and over again. It becomes discouraging for people who genuinely want to grow on the platform. Some of these smaller creators actually make better content because they’re being authentic and trying harder to connect with people, but they don’t get the visibility they deserve.
YouTube used to feel more balanced when it came to discovery. You could actually stumble across hidden gems and creators who felt relatable. Now it feels like the platform mainly pushes what is already trending instead of giving opportunities to newer people trying to build something from the ground up. It makes small creators feel invisible, and honestly, that is one of the biggest problems with YouTube right now.
The sad thing is that viewers are also missing out. There are so many talented people online that nobody gets to see because the algorithm keeps recycling the same content and same creators repeatedly. Small creators deserve support, visibility, and an actual chance to grow instead of constantly being overlooked.
